Feb 28, 2007 hi.. i thought this post may be useful to some people struggling to change their D2S bulbs. I recommend removing the bumper and headlights to replace the bulbs. it would make it much easier both or you and your fingers Removal of bumper guide can be found here: to start off with... here's how ur HID headlight should be like:
twist the cover anti-clockwise to open it to gain access to the bulb:
this should open access to the bulb:
Then you should be able to twist the igniter socket with you fingers. turn anti clockwise:
Then the bulb's base becomes exposed:
With your thumb, push the clip forward while moving them to the side:
Once both clips have been pushed out, pull it forward to let the bulb loose:
Then simply pull the bulb out:
And simple install in reverse order with the new bulb. its as easy as that... oh here's some fun shots with my SLR's Macro capabilities..

Perfect timing for this thread as I was just planning on ordering new bulbs for my headlights. I didn't realize the bumper would have to be removed just to change the bulbs. What a PITA.

[quote author=hashboogie link=topic=70688.msg1558060#msg1558060 date=1184464833] Well, you don't have to remember the bumper or the
headlight assembly to replace the bulbs, but it is recommended. I took mine out and put them back in without removing the assembly, but I also had about 15 gashes all over my fingers and hands from trying to shove them down in there. I'm definitely taking it off once I upgrade the bulbs. I hated having sore and cut up hands for a week. Joined Jan 26, 2009 · 373 Posts

Do you need a conversion kit to be able to switch the Stock lighting to the HID lighting Joined Aug 15, 2008 · 8 Posts
HID's need a special ballast because they use very high voltage to ignite the bulb. so yes, you need a kit. does anyone have any recommendations on an bulb upgrade? I saw that the ones in the walkthrough are Phillips. What are the OEM bulbs? Joined Apr 15, 2009 · 1 Posts

D2R bulbs will work, but you may be getting less light than a D2S. D2R has a stripe on the bulb to limit the amount of light/glare, because D2R are specifically designed to be used with reflector-type headlights. All projectors headlights uses d#S Joined Oct 15, 2010 · 160 Posts

Awesome write up. I hope mine dont go out till i can afford new lights, they are so foggy, i have to use headlight polish on them daily. i was looking at some new lights that look stock on ebay, but i dont know if the HID housings are the same as halogen housings dut to the fact the HID housing has that twist cap.
