I have just purchased a 2014 GC Overland. When I have the A/C running (fan on low) I notice that there is a intermintant sound that sounds like an increase in power but no increase in air flow through the vents. I took it to the dealership and they identified that the compressor is cycling too quickly and that the pressure was slightly low. They re-charged the A/C systerm and stated that it was fixed. The problem seemed to be fixed but after driving it for a while I noticed the same problem. I took it to the dealer for the second time and they insisted that this was normal operation. Does anybody else have this symptom? Is this normal?

My 2014 Summit a/c isn't as cold as my previous 2012 Overland. I posted in another thread that the air temp out of the center vent was only 49 degrees when the outside ambient temp was 78. It's supposed to be colder than that at idle.

I may just have to hook up the manifold gauges and check the pressures and if needed (no doubt it does), add some 134a to the system. Because I'm positive the dealer will say its operating as designed. A standard line they learn in training.

The a/c is a sealed system. Unless it wasn't charged properly at the factory, if they had to recharge it and didn't repair the leak, it will just get worse.

Of course without sitting in your car it's hard to tell if it seems to be recycling too often.

My main concern is the sound that comes from the vents when the A/C is turned on. It seems to happen as soon as the A/C cycle starts. Every 10-15 seconds it seems that more air is passing through the vents for about 1-2 seconds and them goes to normal. The sound is annoying and I never had a A/C that sounded like this before. Since the dealer said it was "normal" I was just wondering if anybody else can hear this sound/ if there A/C cycles on and off every 10-15 seconds.

Of possibly equal or greater importance, has anyone noticed that the air conditioning doesn't seem to run when you're in AUTO mode? The light on the AC button doesn't go on, but if you push the AC button the system swaps out of AUTO mode. That can't be right.

In mine, on auto, the AC is still working, it just turns off the AC button light.

Same here but I have to agree AC is rather weak. My 12 year old Pathfinder blows colder air than Jeep. Also it seems like it is sluggish to react to temperature changes in Auto mode. Again seems like the Auto system was MUCH better in my 12 year old Pathfinder.

Even when the temps hit upper 80's here last week my Jeep kept comfortable, but I agree, it's not the most powerful a/c system. Passengers in the rear seat complained at first, but it cooled down eventually for them. My Enclave's a/c is like a refrigeration unit next to the Jeep's.

Auto works with the temp change you set. To test auto change your numbers to low, wait for car to cool then bring it up to temp like 68 and see if auto responds to the request. I just took a trip this weekend and the AC was on for a good hour (at 60) with recirc(max) on and it barley kept the car cool with the dog panting in the back. the outside temp was only 79.
Coming back it worked completely different same settings. These vehicles have a mind of their own. I never had any issues with my 2011

Chrysler should have left the HVAC system alone from the 11-13's but I guess with the new electrical architecture in the 14's, they had to mess things up. Now it will take them at least a year to sort it out.

Personally the system has trouble keeping up during high 70's weather. Not sure what will happen when we will hit high 90's. Will check pressure when I will get home.

First 80 degree day here in Portland and it was having a hard time in my max steel overland w/ black interior. Kids were complaining in the back. Not only did the a/c seem weak, but the airflow to the vents in the rear was pretty low.

Mid 80's and humid here today. Now that I've figured out how to operate the a/c it keeps my vehicle quite comfortable. Select max/cool soft-key, and recirculate soft-key, and it cools down quickly. Also, on remote start, a/c turns on if outside temp is hot, it shuts off when you open the driver's door (hope for software update to solve this problem), but the vehicle was cooled down. I can live with this.

88 in NJ today and the AC was on auto, recirculating and it was terrible in the car. My 14 overland could not even keep up with getting it down to 79. My 2011 was a refrigerator compared to this. Did they change the compressor on the new 14? Ugh!

I don't think my recirc works in auto. When I press the recirc button, and it lights, the auto light goes off. That's why my post says recirc with max/cool. 85 outside, and after a bit I turned the fan down, as it was getting pretty chilly.

It's been in the mid 80s this week with high humidity, the AC has functioned perfectly for me in the front with plenty of room to spare (I'm sure my AC will keep me cool in the height of summer, even with my previous comments to the opposite), but I'm sure if I had guests in the back they wouldn't be happy, methinks someone needs to come up with an aftermarket fan kit doe the rear vents that allows for decent airflow.

Sounds like a great idea.

My experience with AC has been great up front.. But kids have complained a few times during first few minutes of a trip.. After a few minutes back seems to compare to temp in front.

I hope if I set the auto AC to like 60 when I have rear passengers I won't have to listen to the complaining, but sadly I have vocal complainers normally, grrr - like the family member who said "that means there is more to break" when I showed off the JGC....

AC report from Phoenix, AZ on 2014 JGC Overland:

Just returned from 30 mile non-highway trip. Temps midday at 106 to 108 degrees with blistering sun.
After initial start-up from garage, ran A/C at MAX, fan speed at 6. After 4 mins, got too cold, so reduced to normal and fan at 4. Front cabin very comfortable and my
"test passenger" in rear seat, agreed.
The A/C, at least in this 2014, has so far worked very well in AZ temps that have reached triple digits in the last two weeks. In my case, better than than our other vehicle, a late model BMW 740.

How do I reset my Jeep climate control?

Here's what you need to do: Step one: At the same time, push the “browse enter” and “volume” buttons on your dashboard. Step two: Press and hold the buttons until your dashboard screen turns black, then powers itself back on. And that's it!

What causes climate control problems?

Like every electrical component in your vehicle, multiple factors can be contributing to a climate control system issue. Faulty vents, a broken interior temperature sensor, failing fan motors, degraded fan relays, a refrigerant fuel leak and an insufficient amount of coolant in the engine.

Why is my climate control not working in my car?

While there are a variety of reasons your car's air conditioning might not be operating at top performance, the most common are a refrigerant leak, an electrical climate control issue, or a problem with the air conditioning compressor. Each of these can cause the AC to blow lukewarm or hot instead of cold air.

Why is my Jeep AC blowing hot air?

Your AC blowing warm air could be due to any of the following: Refrigerant Leak: Refrigerant is a liquid that circulates through your vehicle's AC system and removes heat and humidity from the cabin. A leak can happen from a broken hose, punctured evaporator, or other malfunctioning connection mechanisms of the AC.
