Acuvue oasys 1 day vs dailies total 1

Acuvue oasys 1 day vs dailies total 1

I've worn contacts for decades. I never had a big issue with comfort until last year when I developed dry eye. I've been working with my eye doctor to find a comfortable contact lens that doesn't dry my eyes. I've literally tried 10 different brands/types over that past few weeks. I have narrowed it down to the two most comfortable; Dailies Total 1 and Acuvue Oasys 1 day. They still dry out at times and I find myself having to use rewetting drops...but they are both far better than what I was wearing. Some days the Acuvues seem more comfortable, other days the Dailies are more comfortable. Other than comfort and price, is there anything else I should consider to help me decide which one to go with?

The daily disposable modality has been a great innovation. But did you know that 59% of contact lens wearers, including those in daily disposable lenses, still experience a decline in lens performance over the course of a single day?1 The decline isn’t always linear. It can change from moment to moment, which often makes it harder for patients to pinpoint the problem. All they know is that they are frustrated with their contact lenses. Patients may start to take breaks from contact lens wear, and eventually drop out.

The data suggests that declining performance is associated with a wide variety of activities that require wearers to shift between different environments throughout the day.

That’s why one of the first questions I ask patients is, “Tell me what your typical day is like.” If I learn they are busy with lots of different activities, shifting between indoors and out, going strong all day long with their computer and digital devices, I know they are going to be demanding a lot of their lenses, so I reach first for ACUVUE OASYS® Brand Contact Lenses 1-Day with HydraLuxe™ Technology.

In a recent clinical study, patients reported excellent performance across multiple activities and demanding environments after wearing ACUVUE OASYS® 1-Day on a daily disposable basis for one week. Ninety-one percent agreed or strongly agreed that these lenses perfectly met the needs of their busy lifestyles.2

Nearly 60% of contact lens wearers – and especially those with demanding days – experience a decline in lens performance over one day

ACUVUE OASYS® 1-Day with HydraLuxe™ Technology has excellent performance across multiple activities and demanding environments

The lens’s tear-like molecules mimic mucins and help to stabilize the tear film

ACUVUE OASYS® 1-Day outperforms a leading competitor on comfort, vision and handling

New data also shows that ACUVUE OASYS® 1-Day Lenses outperform a leading competitor in the daily disposable market Dailies Total1®, on the key elements of contact lens performance: comfort, vision, and handling.2

Taking comfort to the next level

I’m excited about the tear-infused design of HydraLuxe™ Technology that helps make ACUVUE OASYS® 1-Day Lenses so comfortable. This lens has been specifically formulated to create a finer polymer network in combination with the tear-like molecule PVP (polyvinyl pyrrolidone) and hydrated silicone. This lens network behaves more like the mucins in tears, helping to stabilize the tear film and lubricate the eye for effortless blinking.

That’s why patients wearing ACUVUE OASYS® 1-Day rate its comfort higher than that of Dailies Total1® overall and on specific measures such as end-of-day comfort (67% rating ACUVUE OASYS® 1-Day excellent or very good vs. 54% for Dailies Total1®), working on a computer (77% vs. 68%), and comfort from activity to activity (78% vs. 71%).2

Vision and handling

The clinical results also show that patients reported being more satisfied with their vision overall (71% vs. 64%) and with the quality of their vision at night when wearing ACUVUE OASYS® 1-Day (92% vs. 89%).

But one of the most important distinctions to me was the large difference in handling between the two lenses. Ninety-three percent of ACUVUE OASYS® 1-Day wearers said ease of removal was excellent or very good, compared to just 67% of those wearing the competitive lens.

Doctors often dismiss handling as an issue of concern. (Inserting and removing a lens is the easy part, right?!)

But it can have a big impact on our patients’ emotional response to contact lens wear, particularly for new wearers. Someone who has difficulty removing the lenses at night may feel discouraged or incompetent. Even if comfort and vision are great, the patient begins to avoid lens wear because he or she dreads removing the lenses. And then we are right back where we don’t want to be – in the dropout category.

Another feature I like about all ACUVUE® Lenses is that they offer UV protection. ACUVUE OASYS® 1-Day has the highest level UV protection available in a contact lens (Class 1), blocking approximately 96.9% of UVA and 99.9% of UVB rays.†*

Supporting my practice

Contact lens wearers have always been a huge part of my practice success. They return frequently, purchase multiple products, and are a great source of referrals.

I hope and believe that one of the reasons for those referrals is that I treat each patient as an individual, and prescribe the lens that is right for their lifestyle and their unique eyecare needs. When I choose ACUVUE OASYS® 1-Day, I tell patients, “This lens was designed for people like you who have really demanding days.”I’m educating them that my choice isn’t random, but is truly tailored to their needs. Combine that with excellent performance in comfort, vision, and handling, and that’s a recipe for success.

Lenses were worn as daily disposable on both eyes.

ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses are indicated for vision correction. As with any contact lens, eye problems, including corneal ulcers, can develop. *WARNING: UV-absorbing contact lenses are NOT substitutes for protective UV-absorbing eyewear, such as UV-absorbing goggles or sunglasses, because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. You should continue to use UV-absorbing eyewear as directed. NOTE: Long-term exposure to UV radiation is one of the risk factors associated with cataracts. Exposure is based on a number of factors such as environmental conditions (altitude, geography, cloud cover) and personal factors (extent and nature of outdoor activities). UV-blocking contact lenses help provide protection against harmful UV radiation. However, clinical studies have not yet been done to demonstrate that wearing UV-blocking contact lenses reduces the risk of developing cataracts or other ocular disorders. Consult your eye care practitioner for more information.
