For bark or mulch, a nice thick depth would be 3 to 4 inches. If you want to cover an area with gravel, 1 to 2 inches should be sufficient depending on the size of the gravel. If you are using 3/4" inch gravel or larger figure on at least 2 inches in depth to get good coverage.

If you want to haul these materials in your own truck, you need to know the weight per ton and the capacity of your truck. As a general rule of thumb, small trucks (1/2 ton) can haul a half yard of gravels and soil or a yard of bark. Large pick-up trucks (3/4 and 1 ton) can haul one yard of heavy material or a couple of yards of bark. Or, we can deliver to your site.

Radius in feet x Radius in feet x Depth in feet (inches divided by 12) x pi (3.14). Take the total and divide by 21.6 (the amount of cubic feet in a ton). The final figure will be the estimated amount of cubic yards required.

How many yards of gravel do I need to cover an area?

Typically, as 1 yard of gravel cover around 162 sq ft area for 2 inch depth, so 10 yards of gravel = 162 × 10 = 1620 sf coverage, therefore 10 yards of gravel can cover around 1620 square feet or 150 square meters area for standard 2 inch depth.
