Watch Prime movies and shows offline using 2 different options
What to Know
- Rented/purchased movies, go to Video Library > Movies or TV Shows > select movie > Download.
- For movies included with Prime, use the app > select video > under video details, tap Download and follow prompts.
- Your target device must be Amazon-compatible: Kindle, iOS, macOS, Android, or Windows 10.
This article explains two different ways to download Amazon Prime movies for offline viewing.
Download Amazon Prime Movies You’ve Rented or Purchased
Assuming you’ve already purchased or rented a movie or TV program, begin the download process on a supported device:
Connect to the internet and open the Prime Video app on your device.
Tap the hamburger menu, represented as 3 horizontal lines.
Tap Video Library.
Tap either Movies or TV Shows, depending on your desired video.
Find and tap your movie, then tap Download from the menu on the right.
If you have an SD card installed, you may be asked where you want the video to be saved.
Under Download Options, choose among four different files sizes:
- Best: 1 hour of video uses approximately 0.46 GB of data and storage.
- Better: 1 hour of video uses approximately 0.33 GB of data and storage.
- Good: 1 hour of video uses approximately 0.27 GB of data and storage.
- Data Saver: 1 hour of video uses approximately 0.14 GB of data and storage.
The lower the quality of the download, the lower the video quality.
You should see the video download, with the percentage completed shown on the right.
When the download's complete and you’re ready to watch, tap Complete.
Tap Take me to the downloads page.
To watch it later, tap the hamburger menu.
Tap Downloads.
Tap Play to begin playing any of your downloaded videos.

Open the Prime Video app.
Tap a video of your choice after scrolling through the Prime Carousel.
In the video details, tap Download.
If you have an SD card installed, you may be asked where you want the video to be saved.
Under Download Options, choose among four different files sizes:
- Best: 1 hour of video uses approximately 0.46 GB of data and storage.
- Better: 1 hour of video uses approximately 0.33 GB of data and storage.
- Good: 1 hour of video uses approximately 0.27 GB of data and storage.

How to Delete Viewed Amazon Prime Videos
After you’ve watched those downloaded videos, delete them to save space on your device.
Open your Prime Video app.
Tap the hamburger menu.
Tap Downloads.
To delete a single video, tap the 3 vertical dots on the right side.
Tap Delete download.
To delete several videos simultaneously, tap Edit.
Tap each video, or tap Select all to delete all the videos.
Tap Delete.

Can You Legally Download Movies from Amazon Prime?
Yes, you can. However, Amazon doesn’t allow downloading to just anything; you'll need a compatible device:
- Kindle Fire tablets (Except 1st generation)
