OK, I got to admit a little bit of Amazon user error on this one! I ordered the wrong size and I see that the sizing chart is right there in the pictures but it is not as obvious as the tag they put on the actual overall, which I uploaded here. Given the size and visibility of the tag on the overall, this sizing error must happen quite a bit so I would recommend to the seller to not bury the lede in a sizing chart that...again, my fault, maybe not everyone reads as they rush to order some pants! No points deducted for my error but coupled with Amazon "how does it fit" saying "as expected", my internet-induced poor reading comprehension would have benefited from this huge and obvious tag more upfront in the product listing.

Little tight and I followed the size chart and went a bit bigger, little tough to kneel in and drive in, goes tight across the belly.

Carhartt makes quality work clothes. They just make they for skinny people. Make sure to size up accordingly. That's 2 sizes for everyone, 3+ extra for big belly dudes.

I ordered a size up from my pants size and its still overly tight around the belly and chest. It is wearable, but the side buttons need to be left opened. The material is very stiff and will cause fatigue. They are difficult to work in out of the box and will need time to loosen up and work away the stiffness. For a better fit i recommend ordering the waist a size up and if you are in between sizes on length i would go to the shorter size.

BLUF: They are warm as heck. Order a size or two up on the waist. Try them on at a store if you can.

I’ve just gotten back to riding my motorcycle again year-round again. I’ve been adding layers and clothing along the way to ensure that I can ride throughout the winter, and this past week the temps and wind chill took the ‘feels-like’ temperature down to 20 degrees. I really hate wearing thermals, so I decided to try coveralls at a friend’s urging.

After having spent a morning looking over different styles on the internet, I determined that a quilt-lined pair of overalls is what I wanted to go with. I took a trip over to my local Tractor Supply Company who had this same brand priced at exactly $20 more. I would have bought a pair then, but they didn’t have the size that I wanted. They also didn’t have my size in their store-brand either. I assume that had something to do with going after the first major cold/freezing spell.

So, the biggest benefit was actually trying them on. In reality I wear a 32” waist. When I tried on a 34” waist in the store, I thought it was a bit tight. I ended up ordering a 36” waist from Amazon, and so far, they are perfect. I don’t feel like it’s snug. I ordered roughly two sizes up and have been very happy with the result. The length is 30”, just like every other pair of pants I own.

    Notes on fit:
-I wear them with a pair of combat boots. It’s easier getting them on than getting them off.
-The zipper on the pant legs works fine. The buttons are a pain in the rear, but that might be because they are new -and very stiff.
-There are so many pockets. Great for using them for their intended purpose – overkill for riding
-I don’t like the fasteners for the overall straps. They work fine, but buttons would have been easier here. This is more like a hook and loop style.
-I had to take off the overalls to adjust the straps. I ordered my normal ant inseam, but had to tighten the straps quite a bit. Still would not have changed that decision.

When the temps are well below 40, and half that with the wind chill, these work amazingly well. My mid-section and upper legs are toasty warm all the way down to 20 degrees real-feel, and going 60 mph. The only drawback that I found when using them for this purpose, it gets cold from about my shins down when the cold air gets up under the pant legs. This is due to them being loose at the bottom of the legs. Again – I am not necessarily using them for their intended application, so it’s not surprising that they are loose and allow air to flow, but that’s the only drawback. Otherwise, these fit great and they keep me warm. If I only had a pair of gloves this warm.

Great coveralls over all! Carhart makes quality stuff. The only problem is the sizing on these. I wear a 36×30 jeans so I bought a 40x30 and they are still pretty tight with any kind of pants on underneath. The only way these fit is if I only wear a pair of underwear or just a single layer of thermals underneath. I wish I would have gone like 6 sizes bigger instead of 4 sizes bigger like I did. I'm most likely going to be returning these depending on if they keep me warm enough with just a single pair of thermals under them. If I need any extra layers under these to stay warm they will be worthless to me. But they do have a pretty darn nice layer built in so we will see. I'll try to update once I get to use them for the first time out in the -6° weather I will be facing next week. I work outside every day in freezing ass cold weather. 🥶 So I will put these babies to the ultimate test.

First of all, I bought this on Amazon simply the because the price was much lower than buying at the large outfitter store near me. Because that store is so close, I was able to try these on to make sure I got the correct size. Which brings me to the size.

Decide how you're going to use these. Most Carhartt outer wear is larger than most of us are used to because it's designed as OUTER wear. In other words, if you normally wear an XL, the XL in these bibs will be big enough that you can probably wear long johns AND a pair of pants underneath. If you're going to be working in them, you can probably go a size smaller; you'll still have room for long john's. NOTE that this does not necessarily apply to length. I got the same length as I wear in jeans and they fit perfectly.

As for warmth. I wore these while clearing my driveway earlier this winter. It was pretty cold out, single digit or low teens, and I was using a snow blower (no more shoveling for me, thank you very much!). I wore these with thermal britches and NEVER felt the cold. If I'd been exerting myself I'd have gone with regular scivvie britches.

My main reason for buying these is protection, as in, from thorns. My hunting buddies always swear they are giving me the "easy" route, but I still end up going through briers that even Bre'r Rabbit would avoid. I normally come out bloody from waist to shin (good boots and a Carhartt Jacket take care of the rest). Not so with these overalls. The duck material is extremely protective, and I suffered nary a scratch.

These Carhartt products are quite water resistant but not completely waterproof. They will keep you dry for quite a while even when it's raining, but eventually water will get through. It just takes a while. However, I have never had snow melt through, and to be honest, I don't care to stand out in the rain all that long regardless what I'm wearing!

One last word on warmth. I wear my jacket even when it's only cool out (50s-60s). I leave it unzipped and I don't get too warm. I know some people do; it just isn't too much for me. These overalls, on the other hand, would definitely be too much if it's not necessary to wear them. Like most Carhartt duck outer ware, they are fairly stiff and bulky, so they are great for working, not so much as casual wear.

I have no hesitation recommending these, and when (if!) it becomes necessary to replace them I will certainly get another pair.

EDIT: It's now 6 years later, and these overalls are still going strong. Absolutely a quality product!

As a lady, these are a bit big (ordered a 32 thinking my hips would be tight, but they are roomy)
Love the full coverage up the back and front, definitely make these a great set for choring.
They keep me nice and toasty in the nasty cold of eastern Ontario where I’m up and in the barn before dawn. Tested them in minus 30C and so far they work like a charm.
I’ve gotten the outer layer soaked carrying water to paddocks and not felt a bit of damp.
The clasps are a bit challenging when you are in a rush to take them off but you will never have to worry about them springing loose on you.
The multiple pockets make storing tools a breeze and the chest pocket is big enough for an iPhone X in a heavy case, so that’s super handy if you always have to have a cell or walkie on you when working.

Mens short 28" so for those short legged ones you might want to try these, exchanges were easy.did try the artic lined ,way too stiff, hard to move in son who is 12 90lbs 30" inseam found the length to be perfect over boots . These aren't fashion pants. Brought these to haul wood and be able to play like a kid again without worrying about ripping knees out of yet another expensive pair.i ordered acording to my waist 36" is snug with enough room for sweater, relaxes after wearing, like jeans great brand would buy again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great but make sure you need the warm liner version

Reviewed in Canada 🇨🇦 on January 8, 2018

These are very good quality, although they probably fit a little smaller than you would expect. I wear a 34/32 in regular denim and needed a 38/32 in these. I actually had to return them because I was after a pair of coveralls for the summer. When they say these are “lined”, they mean “seriously insulated” and I doubt anyone could wear these in the summertime. Fortunately, there is an identical style available that is not lined so I have exchanged the item for that version which will be more versatile.

As usual and as expected Carhart is the best. HOWEVER....the have changed the way the straps on the coverall hook together. My husband really dislikes this new hookup. The hoop hook over the metal "button" was soooo much better and easier to work with. Also they say to go up 1 size from your reg size. My hubby is a 34/36 and I ended up getting him a 40 in the winter weight coverall. NOW they are comfy to work in. 1size up was not even close to doing up. In the end he loves Carhart !!

Reviewed in Canada 🇨🇦 on February 8, 2020

Bought these for my husband as he works outside during the cold winter months. Purchased a 34 (a size larger than he usually wears) but they were a bit too snug. Returned them and ordered a 38 and they fit perfectly. He can wear his big winter sweaters and work jacket underneath no problem. Keeps him nice and warm.
    A great quality product!
