Moneychangers inSIngapore are best financial value trading cash - and very competitive so a good one tends to have a long queue. Airport ones are slightly worse than those in the city. Use of ATM cards and credit cards depends upon the charges you attract on the base currency exchange rate - for my Uk card the charges are low enough on single maximum withdrawals to make the convenience worth the overall lower rate than changing cash. UK foreign exchange is truely appalling in rates by comparison to Singapore so I simply do not bother with changing SGD here. My general pattern is land - hit an ATM in the airport for block of cash, go to other ATMs through the visit to top up cash if need be, and use a credit card for any big purchases. The US banking market or your specific bank may alter the variables, so best talk to them - if the US security is anything like the UK, you will want to have your bank put a note on the account to expect ATM card use in Singapore or they may block the card. If your ATM card has the Cirrus or Plus logo you can use it at any ATM here. You'll need to check the overseas transaction rates with your bank. Often, you'll get the best value by bringing USD in cash and exchanging it forSingapore currency at one of the various money changer outlets. Re: Bank of America ATM with no fee 11 years ago Save I used my Bank of America ATM card inSingapore to withdraw cash from one of the local ATM machines which I think was either OCBC or UOB that showed a VISA sign. I believe there were several local ATM machines at the basement of Marriot Hotel or Orchard MRT station. I could not find a BofA branch or ATM machine anywhere in Singapore. But note that there is a charge of US$5 per foreign ATM usage and a 1% Foreign Currency Fee, so if you intend to use the local ATM machine, I suggest making larger withdrawal, at least enough for the duration of your travel to avoid repeatedly paying for the $5 ATM fee. Re: Bank of America ATM with no fee 11 years ago Save As most have already indicated, BofA has no presence in SG, so if you travel a great deal you may want to open a secondary account with a bank that does charge an ATM access fee. They are out there but it just takes some research. The bank I use here in the West Coast is First Republic and they do refund the access fee other banks charge for using their ATM and they do not charge for using other bank's ATM. I believe that First Republic has a branch in CONN, but it is in Greenwhich. You may also want to double check a large multi-national bank that has branches everywhere - HSBC. They have ATMs in SG. Re: Bank of America ATM with no fee 11 years ago Save No need for sarcasm :( BofA has what they call a "Global ATM Alliance" where banks that are part of the alliance does not charge a fee to use their ATMs(you sitll have to pay the 1% or 2% intl. transaction fee for currency conversion). Not sure whey they call it "Global" in the sense that certain banks in the following countries: UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Germany, Australia and New Zealand are the only ones in the alliance.
