Free bloomin onion outback bowl 2023

Clay Sauertieg is a 2015 Penn State graduate with a degree in print journalism and a focus in sports journalism who has covered Penn State wrestling since 2013 and football since 2014.

Penn State is headed to the 2022 Outback Bowl which can mean only one thing, a battle for free appetizer supremacy.

Since 2015, the Outback Bowl has given away either a free Bloomin’ Onion or free coconut shrimp on Jan. 2 based on the winner of the previous day’s game. Team Bloomin’ Onion is 4-3 all-time and holds the most recent win with Ole Miss downing Indiana 26-20 a year ago.

This year, Penn State looks to even the series for coconut shrimp. Which is personally upsetting for me as I would much prefer the Bloomin' Onion.

But those are your high stakes. Where do you guys sit in the Bloomin onion-coconut shrimp debate? VOTE HERE.

Update: Bloomin’ Onions for all!

Final #OutbackBowl Score, 30-3 Florida. Congratulations to Gators/Bloomin' Onions!

The winner of the Outback Bowl between Florida and Iowa could have a huge effect on …  orders at Outback Steakhouse.

The restaurant chain is offering a free Bloomin’ Onion if Florida wins and free coconut shrimp if Iowa wins on Monday — which means that people who have little interest in the game itself are suddenly rooting very hard for their favorite appetizer.

But which one is better? Are we all rooting for Florida now? Vote:

The Outback Bowl is the most important bowl in the history of college football. It is a bowl that gives America the right to a free appetizer. If the SEC team wins, in this case, Arkansas, everybody gets a free Bloomin’ Onion from Outback Steakhouse. If the Big Ten team wins, in this case, Penn State, everybody gets free coconut shrimp from Outback Steakhouse. Let’s break this game down before I get hungry even more.

      How We Got Here:

      Arkansas:

Arkansas came into this season as a team that has shown some sparks. The Razorbacks were trying to get rid of the stench of Chad Morris, and they have been successful in doing so. Arkansas started off the season 4-0 with big wins against Texas and Texas A&M. Being led by the dual threat in K.J. Jefferson and star wideout Treylon Burks, the Arkansas offense was fun to watch this season. Outside of a whooping from Georgia, the offense continued to be a fun one, even in losses to Ole Miss, Auburn, and Alabama. The Razorbacks finished at a respectable 8-4.

      Penn State:

A tale of two seasons for Penn State. In the first part of the season, the Nittany Lions were healthy and not inept offensively. That team started off 5-0, including wins over a ranked Wisconsin (who also had a very weird year), and a ranked Auburn (who had a very Auburn year). Things started to falter when Sean Clifford got injured against Iowa, and the offensive identity of the Nittany Lions disappeared. With Clifford not 100% healthy for a large portion of the second half of the season, the offense faltered despite the best efforts of Jahan Dotson. Losses to that aforementioned Iowa team, along with Illinois (the new OT rules are stupid), Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State, has Penn State in the Outback Bowl.

      Players To Watch:

      Arkansas:

WR Tyson Morris — With Treylon Burks opting out, Tyson Morris will have to step up and challenge this Penn State secondary. Penn State having multiple opt outs in the front seven will allow KJ Jefferson time in the pocket to find Morris and the rest of the core.

      Penn State:

RBs Noah Cain and Keyvone Lee — Arkansas has a pedestrian rushing defense. Arkansas has an above average passing defense. Penn State hasn’t had a 100-yard rusher all season. With Dotson out, Penn State might have to change course for them to have a fighting chance here and allow Noah Cain and Keyvon Lee to carry the offense.

      Score Prediction:

      Arkansas 31, Penn State 17

Bloomin’ Onion wins it for me. Every time. Arkansas is also the better team, but my mind is solely on food today. On a serious note, Penn State has had multiple opt outs and injuries on the defensive side of the ball. Arkansas should have enough to take care of Penn State very easily.
