Anonymous asked: What's the meaning of "Hold On Till May"? Vic said, “A girl I used to date once told me that her parents neglected her as a child. She remembered climbing this tree in her backyard and hiding from them just to see if they would look for her, or even notice that she was gone. I always thought it was such a sad story and I wrote this song for her. It also talks about the ups and downs in a relationship that we’ve had recently.”
She sits up high surrounded by the sun And as the sun went downWe ended up on the ground I heard the train shake the windows You screamed over the sound And as we own this nightI put your body to the test with mine This love was out of control 3, 2, 1, where did it go? Now don't be crazy!yes now of course you can stay here Been in a touring band going on ten years "Big deal", she said "I guess you're official" I only said it 'cause I know what it's like to feel Burned out! We've all been there sometimes But tonight, I'll make you feel beautiful once again And as the sun went downWe ended up on the ground I heard the train shake the windows You screamed over the sound And as we own this night If I were you, I'd put that away And she said 'Cause I can't take anymore I'll draw the shades and close the door Everything's not alright, and I would rather" And as the sun went down I heard the train shake the windows You screamed over the sound And as we owned this night Lyrics taken from /lyrics/p/pierce_the_veil/hold_on_till_may.html She sits up high surrounded by the sun One million branches and she loves every one "Mom and dad, did you search for me? I've been up here for so long I'm going crazy" And as the sun went down we ended up on the ground I heard the train shake the windows You screamed over the sound And as we own this night I put your body to the test with mine This love was out of control 3-2-1 where did it go? Now don't be crazy Yes now of course you can stay here. Been in a touring band for going on ten years. "Big deal," she said, "I guess you're official" I only said it 'cause I know what it's like to feel Burned out It gets you down, We've all been there sometimes But tonight I'll make you feel beautiful once again And as the sun went down we ended up on the ground I heard the train shake the windows You screamed over the sound And as we own this night I put your body to the test with mine This love was out of control 3-2-1 where did it go? If I were you, I'd put that away See, you're just wasted And thinking about the past again Darling you'll be okay She said, "If you were me, you'd do the same 'Cause I can't take anymore I'll draw the shades and close the door I'm not alright and I would rather..." And as the sun went down we ended up on the ground I heard the train shake the windows You screamed over the sound And as we own this night I put your body to the test with mine This love was out of control Tell me where did it go? ---------------------------------------- "I wrote that song for a friend of mine. She would tell me stories about how her parents neglected her as a kid. My parents were so awesome growing up, I can't imagine what that would have been like. When she was little, she would climb into her neighbor's trees just to see if her parents would notice that she was gone. It really messed her up growing up and still kind of affects her now in her 20s. I wrote "Hold On Till May" to see if she could get any kind of closure on that part of her life. She ended up sending the song to her mom. Her mom didn't know how to respond." -This is a direct quote from an Interview with Pierce the Veil in Alternative Press Magazine. Vic also said this: "A girl i used to date once told me that her parents neglected her as a child. It could also very well be about a 19 year old Australian girl named Olivia Penpraze who committed suicide in March 2012 because she couldn't "Hold On Til May" which was her planned suicide date. The title seems to be about Oliva Penpraze, even though the lyrics were written for Vic's friend. Maybe it was written for both of them? #etmfeature |
