You can automatically backup and sync your photos and videos when you take them. For Android phones, you can also limit the usage of data during the automatic upload of photos and videos.

How to turn back up and sync on or off on Android device

Step 1: Open the Google Photos app on your Android phone or tablet.

Step 2: Now, sign in to your Google account.

Step 3: At the top right, tap your account profile photo or initial.

Step 4: Choose photos settings and select back up & sync.

Step 5: Tap on back up & sync to turn on or off.

Important things to remember:

  • All applications that use back up & sync will get affected when you change backup settings.
  • If back up & sync is on, then deleting the Google Photos application from your device will not turn it off.
  • If you want to turn off back up & sync, you need to follow the instructions above.

How to change your back up settings on an Android device

  • Select the Google account to back up photos and videos: Below backup account, tap the account name.
  • Change your upload size: Tap upload size to change your upload size.
  • Back up device folders: Tap on back up device folders and then choose the folders you want to back up.
  • Back up on mobile data: If you do not have access to Wi-Fi to back up your videos, then tap videos under cellular data usage.
