How to Set Up Gmail on Android

Gmail is the easiest email provider to set up on your Android device, since it comes preinstalled. All you will need to do is sign in to your account. Here's what you do:

  1. Tap Settings > Accounts.

    Depending on your phone, you may have to hunt through the Settings to find Accounts. Sometimes, it's located under the Personal section.

  2. Tap Add Account > Google.

  3. This will bring you to the Add Accountscreen. From here, you can either set up a new Gmail account or enter your existing email address and password.

  4. Tap Accept on the Terms of Service page that follows, and your account should be ready.

How to Set Up Yahoo Email on Android

Setting up Yahoo email on your Android device follows a similar process.

  1. Tap Settings > Add Account.

  2. Tap Email, then tap Yahoo mail. If you don't see the option for it, you can download the app free from the Google Play Store.

  3. Enter your existing Yahoo email address and password or choose to set up a new email.

  4. You will be given a few options, like adjusting how often your email syncs and what you'd like your display name to be with outgoing mail.

  5. After you've chosen the options you would like, tap Next to finish your account setup.

How to Set Up Outlook on Android

  1. Open the Google Play Store and download the Outlook for Android app. It's a free download.

  2. If you're setting up a new account, tap Get Started. It will automatically detect some of your account information.

    If you're accessing an existing email, open your phone's Settings, then tap Add Account > Outlook.

  3. Enter your email address and password. If it requires additional information, it will inform you what is needed.

To access your email, contacts and calendar, and to get apps from the Google Play Store, you can add accounts to your phone. When you add a Google account, info associated with that account automatically syncs with your phone.

When you remove an account, everything associated with that account is also deleted from your phone. This includes email, contacts and settings.

Add a Google or other account to your phone

  1. Open your phone's settings app.
  2. Tap Accounts. If you don't see 'Accounts', tap Users and accounts.
  3. At the bottom, tap Add account.
  4. Tap the type of account that you want to add.
  5. To add your Google Account, tap Google. When you sign in with a Google Account, the email, contacts, calendar events and other data associated with that account automatically sync with your phone.
  6. To add a different personal account, tap Personal (IMAP) or Personal (POP3). You'd generally choose these if you use an email program like Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail. Find out how to use IMAP or POP3 with Gmail.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  8. If you're adding accounts, you may need to enter your phone's pattern, PIN or password for security.
