Check How to Add Timestamp to Images on Android

In recent years, the humble cell phone camera has evolved significantly. Features like bokeh, AI scene detection, watermark, and beauty mode are now part of any decent phone. But despite the many features that a standard Android camera offers, timestamp is not one of them. Usually, people take photos without a date and time and think that it would be much better if the photos had a date and time.

But surprisingly, most cameras, be they DSLRs or smartphone cameras, have output data that records the date, location, and time the photo was taken. To add a permanent timestamp, many phones have a setting that allows a timestamp. If your Android smartphone doesn’t have a timestamp option, here’s how to add a timestamp to photos taken with Android smartphones or tablets. You can use the following methods to recover timestamp on photos with this solution.

  • How to add a timestamp to images in Android
    • Add timestamps over photos using Android’s built-in options
    • use third-party camera apps to add a timestamp

How to add a timestamp to images in Android

Add timestamps over photos using Android’s built-in options

  • Open your default camera app.
  • Find and tap “Settings”.
  • Look for a timestamp option. For Motorola G series phones, it is under “Settings -> Watermark”.
  • Touch or slide the “Time Stamp” option to the “On” position.
  • Go back to your camera and take a photo to verify that the timestamp appears.

use third-party camera apps to add a timestamp

  • Access Timestamp Camera Free on the Google App Store or Timestamp Camera Basic on the iOS App Store.
  • Click “Install”.
  • Allow the necessary permissions, especially to the camera (obviously).
  • The app launches the “Settings” menu after all the above permissions have been set. If the app doesn’t open the settings menu, tap the compass in the bottom right section.
  • Optional: Some settings require the pro version, such as “Font Color”, “Text Size”, “Default Font” and a couple more options. Go to “Step 6” if you use the free version.
  • Optional: Tap “Bottom Right” to change the default timestamp orientation. Other options include “Bottom Center”, “Bottom Left”, “Top Right”, “Top Center”, “Top Left” and “Center”. Go to the next step or tap “OK” to save.
  • Optional: Touch the “date and time” option to adjust the displayed format. Go to the next step or tap “OK” to save.
  • Tap the “address” option to change it to “None” unless you want the address to appear over the photos. Go to the next step or tap “OK” to save.
  • Optional: Tap “Timestamp Margins”, which adjusts the gaps around the timestamp, then go to the next step. If you don’t want to change the margins, go to “step 11”. Go to the next step or tap “OK” to save.
  • Optional: Change the default margin from “None” to “One Line” (raises it one row of text and slightly to the left) or “Printable” (raises it by two rows of text and slightly to the left). Go to the next step or tap “OK” to save.
  • Optional: Tap “Time Up” or “Time Down” to choose the placement of the time and date around other text. This option is only used when you add another timestamp option, such as location. Select “OK” to save.
  • While changing the timestamp options in the steps above, tapping “OK” returns you to the camera screen where you can preview your changes. You can also reopen the options at any time by tapping the “compass” icon.
