Replace or Clean Your Air Filter Regularly

A dirty air filter can make your system run harder, increasing your heating and cooling costs and reducing the life of the blower motor, coils and other parts. Circulating dirty air can also aggravate allergies and those with sensitive immune systems. It’s best to inspect your air filter regularly and replace it every three months. If you have pets, you may need to replace your air filter more frequently.

Have Your System Inspected & Cleaned Twice a Year

Contact your local Bryant dealer to schedule a clean and check. Do it once in the fall for your furnace and once in the spring for your air conditioner or heat pump . This can identify minor issues before they turn into big problems and will ensure your system stays in great running order.

Set Ceiling Fans to Spin in the Right Direction

Ceiling fans can help your system with air distribution. During the summer, set fans to turn counterclockwise, creating a downdraft that makes you feel cooler. During the winter, set fans to turn clockwise, creating an updraft which forces down warm air near the ceiling.

Keep 80% of Your Home’s Vents Open

To run properly, your HVAC system needs a good supply of air circulation. If you close off more than 20 percent of your home’s registers, it can put too much strain on the system. If you feel the air flow in your home isn’t right, talk with your Bryant dealer for additional comfort solutions.

Maintaining your furnace can go a long way in the time in between furnace service appointments. One of the simplest, and crucial, ways to maintain your furnace is by changing your furnace filter. Having a filthy air filter could contribute to a variety of unfavorable problems for your heating and cooling system, its efficiency, and ultimately, how much your energy costs are every month.

So what goes in to deciding when you should switch out your furnace filter?

  • Type of filter: the two most common filter sizes are 1 inch and 3 inch filters. 1 inch filters typically need to be switched out every month and 3 inch filters ought to be replaced every three months, depending on the recommendations of the filter maker.
  • Home habits: if you have pets in your home, it could make sense to replace your filter more often because of pet dander. If you have someone in the house that deals with allergies or asthma, think about changing your home’s air filter more often to help ease their symptoms.

Now you’re probably wondering how to change your furnace filter. More than likely, this will change depending on what furnace you have, but usually:

  • Open or take off the air filter panel near the bottom of your furnace to uncover an open compartment.
  • On the top of that open compartment is where you’ll see your furnace filter resting on two metal lips.
  • There will be a small amount of space to move your filter back and forth that allows you to pull down one end of the filter and remove it from the compartment.
  • When adding the new filter, look at the perimeter of the filter for an arrow that indicates the air flow direction, to make sure you’re installing the filter in the proper direction. In most cases, the arrow should point at the main part (or top) of the furnace.

Do Bryant furnaces have filters?

Many filters shipped with Bryant units are made from higher-quality materials than those of the disposable filters found in retail stores. For that reason, true Bryant replacement filters can only be purchased through a Bryant dealer.

Where is the filter located on my furnace?

You'll most often find the air filter in the blower compartment, which is accessible through a metal door or hatch on the bottom half of the furnace. It may also be in a sliding compartment by the air handler component of your furnace or on a rack installed on the furnace's side.
