How to change password on netgear router

The default password of your NETGEAR Wi-Fi Network is written under your Router. However, that is a collection of random alphabets and letters. Although it is a strong password and no one can guess it easily still, when you’re trying to connect to the network on a new device then it gets hard to remember that password. Therefore, it is better that you change the password of your NETGEAR Wi-Fi Network.

How to change NETGEAR Wi-Fi Password?

To change the NETGEAR Wi-Fi Password, follow these steps:

1. Open your Internet Browser.
2. In the address bar, type http://www.routerlogin.net. Alternatively, you can also type http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1.
3. A login page will appear. Enter the router username and password in the given fields. (The default username is admin and the default password is password). If you forgot login details then learn How to factory reset NETGEAR Router.
4. Click on Log In.
5. Once logged in, click on the Wireless section.
   
   
6. Enter your new password in the Password (Network Key) fields.
7. Click on Apply.
8. All the changes made will be saved and your password will be changed.

*Note: All the connected devices will be disconnected from the Wi-Fi Network and you will have to enter the new network password/key to connect to the network!

To reset your MyNETGEAR account password:

1. Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device.
2. Visit the MyNETGEAR portal.
3. Select Forgot password?.
4. Enter the email address that is associated with your MyNETGEAR account.
5. Select the reCAPTCHA check box.
6. Click or tap Reset Password.
   A password reset verification code is sent to the email address that you entered.
7. Enter the verification code.
8. Enter your new password in both fields.
9. Click or tap Submit.

Your password is reset.

If you still use a legacy NETGEAR router with the Smart Wizard router web interface, we recommend that you consider replacing it with a newer model. While your existing router might still work just fine, WiFi security standards and performance have improved since Smart Wizard products were discontinued.

If you can’t replace your legacy Smart Wizard router, make sure that it is configured with a unique wireless network name (SSID) and strong password. By default, many older NETGEAR routers with the Smart Wizard web interface used a SSID of NETGEAR with no password required for WiFi access. Because these settings allow anyone to discover and access your WiFi network, you should only use this configuration during first time setup and change your SSID and password immediately after.

To change the router password or network name (SSID) on your older NETGEAR Smart Wizard router:

1. Launch a web browser from a device that is connected to your router's network.
2. Enter routerlogin.net or http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar.
   The router login window displays.
3. Enter the router admin user name and password.
   The user name is admin. The default password is password. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
   The Smart Wizard interface displays.
4. From the left side navigation pane, under Setup, select Wireless Settings.
   The Wireless Settings page displays.
   
   
5. Enter a unique Name (SSID) for each of your router’s available bands.
6. In the Security Options section, select the type of security to use.
   WPA2 is the best option if your router supports it, followed by WPA. WEP security is easily decoded and should only be used if there is no other option. For more information, see What is WEP security and how do I set it up?
7. In the Passphrase field, enter a new password (network key).
   You can enter any text string from 8 to 63 characters as your password. The password is case-sensitive.
   
   
8. Click or tap Apply.
   Your changes are saved.

If your device disconnects from your WiFi network after you save your changes, view the available wireless networks again and reconnect using the new WiFi network name and password.
