How to fix asymmetrical lips with filler

Not happy with your smile when you look back at photos or catch your reflection in the mirror?  Lip asymmetry or a crooked smile is a common concern we see amongst our clients.

Why is my smile crooked?

No one’s lips, or face shape for that matter, are perfectly symmetrical – it’s part of what makes us uniquely beautiful! With that said, sometimes lip asymmetry can be a little more noticeable than we’d like. For example, some may have a disproportionally thin top lip that causes a gummy smile (when your top gum line show when smiling). Others meanwhile, have a drooping on either side of the mouth causing a noticeably crooked smile

How can I treat my crooked smile?

At Artisan, our highly-skilled nurses and doctors are experts at correcting asymmetrical lips. They’ll work with you to achieve a natural looking pout that accentuates your best features.

Our experts primarily use dermal filler injections to treat lip asymmetry. By strategically injecting dermal filler (supported in some cases by anti-wrinkle injections around the mouth), they work to naturally restore lost volume, plump thin areas, and lift drooping, leaving you with a beautiful pout that enhances your facial features and makes you look and feel your confident best

When treating lip asymmetry, it’s important to put yourself in the hands of an expert clinician who is skilled in the art of injecting. Also, bear in mind that it can also often take a few treatments to achieve the desired result, so patience is key. Don’t worry though, the results are worth the wait!

In aesthetics, we know that symmetry is often equated with beauty. But if you look at a face, even the most beautiful of celebrities have a slight degree of asymmetry.  Instead of having “perfect” symmetry, we seek to balance asymmetry for our patients.

Many of us are just not lucky enough to have been blessed with beautiful symmetrical features, and one of the most common complaints we hear about is uneven, asymmetrical lips.

Restylane Before and After Photos

Dermal fillers, especially hyaluronic acid-based ones, can be a perfect remedy for this. We can add volume to make the corners of the lips more even, enhance the outer edge (the vermillion border), add volume to one side or another, and even create a more natural balance between the size of your upper and lower lips. The techniques for each of these corrections vary, but the result is a more symmetrical (but not perfect!) looking mouth and lips—which is beautiful!

Both the Restylane and Juvederm family of products can be used for this procedure and after you’ve discussed your concerns with and been evaluated by your injector, together, you can decide which specific product is the right choice for you.

We hear over and over from our female patients about their fears of looking “overfilled” with puffy, duck-billed lips.  We understand this fear, and are happy to explain our approach and show you some before and after pictures (like the ones here on this page) that demonstrate appropriate, conservative and individualized approach to correction of asymmetrical lips.

Our goal is to balance and enhance your natural features, making them more even and attractive to the eye—not make you into someone who doesn’t look like you!

Can lip fillers fix asymmetrical lips?

Fillers are a popular treatment for adding volume to the lips, but they can also be an effective way to improve the symmetry of uneven lips for a more balanced appearance, whether smiling or at rest.

How do you fix lip asymmetry?

If your lips are uneven and pose an emotional or physical issue, options to consider include injections, micropigmentation (tattooing), and plastic surgery. Be sure to consult with your doctor and their recommended specialist before making a commitment to any treatment.

Is asymmetry normal after lip filler?

Lips may get more swelling on one side than on the other side. Because of this, patients may notice a little bit of asymmetry or unevenness. I often tell my patients to wait 10 days or so, before I would re-see them relating to this.

How long are lips uneven after filler?

Treated lips should heal within a few days but we always recommend allowing 2 weeks for them to completely settle. If you have an important event coming up we would recommend allowing 4 weeks to allow any tweaks to be made.
