Method 2 (Type)

1. See how to start a program on your calculator <here> (optional).

2. Begin typing in the code shown in the image below.

Do NOT individually type in the colons, or the “PROGRAM:EXAMPLE” name, the colons will show up automatically when you start a new line by pressing [enter]. The “PROGRAM:EXAMPLE” will already be at the top.

Having trouble finding the character or function you see in the code? See how to type any function/character/symbol on your TI-84 Plus>>.

How To Use The Radical/Square Root Simplifier

To start off press [prgm], then scroll to the “SIMPRAD” or whatever you named the program. And then press [enter] [enter]. Then the program will take you to the screen below.

At the top you will see “√(X)” and then below that, you will see “X=” prompting you to type in whatever X is in your case. This means that if for example, you are looking to simplify √24 you should not enter “√24” you should just enter 24. Once you have entered your number press [enter] and the program will give you your answer.

Now see at the top it says answer “X√(N)” and below that you see”X=2“,”n=6″Now all you have to do is replace X and N at the top of the screen with the numbers that they are equal to shown at the bottom. This means that you would write your final answer as 2√6 and you’re done.

Any questions may be left in the comment section below, they will be answered within 24 hours.

Can the TI-83 family, TI-84 Plus family or TI-Nspire handheld in TI-84 Plus mode display the square root symbol in the solution?

The TI-83 family, TI-84 Plus family and TI-Nspire handheld in TI-84 Plus mode do not have the functionality to display radicals in the solution. This type of functionality can only be found on products that have the Computer Algebra System (CAS) such as the TI-89 Titanium or TI-Nspire CX II CAS.

Therefore, a square root symbol (radical) cannot be displayed in the solution.

Please see the TI-83 Plus Family and TI-84 Plus Family guidebooks for additional information.
