The third-generation Jeep Wrangler model, known as "JK" by the digits in its Vehicle Identification Number, made its debut for the 2007 model-year. The Jeep JK was not originally equipped with a service reminder, or oil change alert. However, Jeep introduced the feature for the 2008 model-year. The "Change Oil" alert is likely to come on approximately every 3000 miles. Changing the oil will not reset or turn off the alert; it must be manually reset.

Step 1

Put your Jeep in "Park" and turn off the engine.

Step 2

Turn the ignition to the "On" notch, without starting the engine.

Step 3

Push the gas pedal to the floor three times (within ten seconds).

Step 4

Turn the ignition to "Off," and then start the engine to verify that the alert is turned off.

The Jeep Wrangler will display an “Oil Change Required” message when the vehicle is due for maintenance. Once the service is complete, you can perform an oil reset using these steps.

All Models

  1. With the engine off, turn the ignition switch to “On” without starting the engine.
  2. Within a 10 second interval, push the accelerator pedal all the way down slowly three times within 10 seconds.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the “LOC” position.

Now when you start the vehicle, the “Oil Change Required” light should no longer be lit.

Newer Models with Instrument Cluster Display

  1. With the engine off, turn the ignition switch to “On” without starting the engine.
  2. Use the buttons on the steering wheel to select “OK“, then use the arrows to toggle the selection to “Vehicle Info“.
  3. Scroll to where the “Oil Life” is selected.
  4. Press and hold the “OK” button until the Oil Life is reset to 100%.

I hope this tutorial has helped you reset the engine oil notification on your Jeep Wrangler. If the steps didn’t work, try performing them again or take your vehicle to an authorized dealer to complete the oil reset.
