I recently purchased a Samsung Smart TV on Amazon, which arrived today. After unpacking, I realized that it came without a remote control.

I contacted Amazon, and they informed me that it was an error on their part and the remote would arrive in a couple of days.

In the meantime, I decided to set up the TV in my living room.

But I was unsure how to turn it on and go through the basic controls without using a remote.

You can turn on Samsung TV without a remote by long-pressing its Power button. Depending on the model, this button can be found on the TV’s back or front panel. 

Turn Samsung TV On Using its Power Button

The easiest way to turn on your Samsung TV if your remote is broken or unavailable is to press and hold the TV’s Power button.

You can find this button on your TV’s body.

In addition to the Power button, your TV may have a few other buttons.

Where is My TV’s Power Button?

The location of the Power button on a Samsung TV depends on its model.

Here are the three main locations to look for this button on your TV: 

Back of the TV

Most Samsung TVs have a Control stick in the lower-right corner of the back panel, which toggles up and down and side to side.

The middle button on the Control stick serves as the Power button.

Under the Front Panel in the Middle

You can get rid of this hectic procedure by downloading the SmartThings app on your smartphone from the App Store or Play Store for free.

This app allows you to turn on/off your Samsung TV and control all of its functions as a physical remote does.

But before being able to use the SmartThings app, you have to pair it with the TV.

For pairing purposes, you have to switch on your TV via the Power button (in absence of a physical remote).

Follow these steps to set up the SmartThings app on your phone: 

1. Launch the App Store or Play Store on your smartphone.
2. Search for ‘SmartThings’ and install it.
3. Once installed, launch the app and click on the (+) icon.
4. Choose ‘Device’ from the menu.
5. Select ‘TV’ from the list.
6. Tap on ‘Samsung’ and press ‘Start’.
7. Pick a location and room for your TV from the options shown on the screen.
8. Select your TV and its model.
9. Enter the PIN displayed on your TV screen to finalize the pairing. 

Note: Ensure your smartphone and TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Once the pairing is complete, you can return to the app’s main screen and control all TV functions with a click on your phone. 

Turn Samsung TV On Using Third-party Remote Apps

If the SmartThings app does not work on your phone or you face any difficulty with it, you can use third-party TV remote apps to turn on your Samsung TV.

But, similar to SmartThings, you must pair them with your TV first.

Here are a couple of the most popular TV remote apps: 

SamRemote

This app works well with all Smart TVs.

All you need to do is to install the app on your smartphone and scan your network.

Once scanned, you will get a virtual remote on the phone with buttons similar to the physical remote.

However, it’s only available for iOS devices. 

TV (Samsung) Remote Control

This app is great for controlling your Samsung TV via an Android device.

It provides several control options for your TV, irrespective of the model.

You just need to pair the app with your TV, and you are good to go.

Turn Samsung TV On Using a Phone’s IR Sensor

Some smartphones come with a built-in IR (Infrared) sensor.

You can use this feature to turn on your TV and operate it if you have such a phone.

All you need to do is download a TV remote app on your phone and point it toward the TV when using the app.

Note: The operating range for an IR sensor is 15-20 feet.
