2.0 out of 5 stars Left and right bud do not stay synced with each other
Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2019

I originally got the anker Bluetooth headphones, but I was not satisfied with the sound quality so I decided to go back to tried and true skull candy. The sound quality is much better, but these don’t quite get loud enough. The tough controls are clumsy, with the volume increments way too large to find the level you want without actually just doing it from the phone. Most infuriatingly, the left and right ear buds do not stay synced up with each other. I am a long distance driver and listen to audiobooks all day—somewhere between 30 seconds and 5 minutes after turning on my book/podcast, the sound ticks over from being fine to having a slight echo between the two buds. It might be fine for music, but for spoken word media it drives me absolutely nuts!!I do think these look nice, and are very lightweight. A little uncomfortable for long wear, but not nearly as excruciating as that echo. The search continues...

As a fan of Skullcandy’s products since the mid-2000s, I was excited when the Indy’s were released. I have been using a pair of the Power Beat 2s for the last 4 years, and it was about time for me to replace them, so I ordered these as soon as I saw them. They arrived a lot faster than expected so props to the seller for that, but the Indy’s have a few issues. For me, the three things that are most important for wireless headphones are sound quality, connectivity, and fit.

Sound Quality:
Sound quality is where these standout. Once you get a good fit, the treble, mids, and bass are perfectly balanced. The only complaint I would have about the sound quality is the volume is a bit low. I am an iOS user and while using iTunes with the sound check on they aren’t very loud, turning sound check off didn’t help much either and it increased distortion on bass heavy songs. I also tried with Pandora, Tidal, YouTube, and DirecTV Now and they’re all fairly low. YouTube had a small amount of latency that was barely noticeable. DirecTV Now has no latency at all. The microphone sound quality and voice sound quality during phone calls is not as good as my Power Beat 2s.

Connectivity:
This is one of the major issues. Music will constantly stop while playing these and I’ve also had issues with the left bud losing its connection completely during a workout which was extremely frustrating. Although the instructions do a good job explaining how re-pair the buds to one another, the process is more complicated than it is with other devices. This may not be a big issue to some people, but switching between devices is a pain. I do not take my phone in the gym or on runs, I stream from my Apple Watch, and switching devices is not a smooth process.

Fit:
I’m 50/50 on this. The left side fits perfectly, but I struggle with the right bud every time I put them in. I’ve tried different tips and still can’t get a solid fit with the right bud. And this fit is the biggest problem for these to me. Since the right bud is always falling out or halfway in my ear, I’m constantly pushing it in which activates the touch controls…usually me turning them off so, I end up stopping and fumbling around with these for a little while to get it to stay in my right ear. However, this will not be an issue to everyone, so I can’t knock the design too much for my lack of ear symmetry.

Finally, would I recommend these or not? It depends on how you want to use them. If you don’t switch devices a lot and have the right sized ears, then I would I say these are pretty good for the price. However, connectivity is something that will need to be worked out or perhaps it’s better on non-iOS devices. I would like to hear feedback from an Android user to see if the volume and connectivity issues are an iOS issue. I’ll say give them a try you can always return them if they don’t’ fit.

Skull Candy Indy True Wireless in ear
I picked up these wireless earphones for 39.99. I looked at a few Youtube reviews to see if I wanted them. They convinced me. After I bought them, that is the only add I saw on social media. Almost every comment was complaining that these were awful. Knowing how social media is, I was gong to still give them a chance. My final thoughts are at the bottom, if you want to jump to it.

First Impressions: They were very dead when I first got them and there is no physical buttons on the ear buds. The case had charge, so I put them in it and did some running around. When I got back home, I was able to play around and get them connected to my phone. I played Wiz Khalifa “On My Level.”

They are not loud, but the sound quality is there. I The bass in that song was good but not great. I have been listening to the Nuggets/Lakers game 4 of the western finals since the start of the 2nd quarter using the right bud only. I have out shirt on, and take it off with the one in my ear. It did not fall out or need adjusting.

With in the first 10 minutes or so, I did lose connection to my phone once. While walking with my phone in my pocket, watching (more only listening) the game, I noticed is was acting like a CD player that was skipping. It eventually worked itself back to working right within a minute. I really like the sound quality of these. I am not looking for loud and super bass.

I would rate the comfort level 7/10. I can slightly feel it with a hair of a sore ear feeling.
The quality of the sound I would say is 9/10 listening to basketball sitting on my couch having a conversation with my wife.
Walking around the home with it in my ear, it earns a perfect 10.
Controls, I would rate it 5/10 just because I like straight forward controls. It is too much to remember.
Overall quality, they feel great. It is hard to give it a number. The case and buds both feel like a quality product.

In time, I am going test these while working around the home, mowing the lawn when the time comes.

Final thought: These seem like they are well worth what I paid. With the lack of volume, and the lack of base, I do not feel like these are worth much more than $50. So far, these seem like they are going to meet my expectation. My one major complaint is that you cannot alternate left and right bud. You can only use the right, or both. For the sale price, it is not a big deal. Full price, I would be disappointed. I am not planning on wearing these all day everyday. I am going to give these a 8/10.

Update: this didn’t end up getting worse, but I noticed a few more things I just did not like. I would have returned them if the window was not expired. These did not end up staying in my ear very well. I swapped the ear piece and it was slightly better. A few times wearing them, my ears were so sensitive to the touch. These were a great low end skull candy head phone. If you have the budget, I would spend a little more. If you don’t, these will function great.

The media could not be loaded.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than airpods but slightly over priced.

Reviewed in India 🇮🇳 on June 12, 2019

Since I've tried apple airpods, my review will largely be a comparison between indy and airpods Here's my opinion about Skullcandy indy:

1. Design: I personally like the stem design of apple airpods. Skullcandy has a similar design but these are slightly larger than air pods. The charging case is also a bit bigger in size but fits easily in pocket. These fit very nicely in the ears and are very comfortable to put on. Sound isolation is really good.

2. Look and feel : These ear buds looks cool. However, the quality of plastic is a bit flimsy. They are also very lightweight which makes them even more comfortable to use.

3. Sound: These ear buds sound way better than airpods. There's a nice balance between bass and treble. Sound is crisp and clear and is accompanied with a deep bass. The bass is not overpowering and gels very nicely with treble. If you are a fan of rock music then definitely go for these.

4. Controls: like the airpods, these ear buds also feature touch controls which are very easy to use.

5. Battery life: battery life is decent. You'll get approx. 3hrs of battery life with additional 12 hrs from the case.

The only con is the pricing. In my opinion these earphones should be priced around 5.5-6k. As compared to apple, this really is a steal but then again you have cheaper alternatives like the noise shots x5.

4.0 out of 5 stars So comfortable I hardly notice I'm wearing them!

Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on June 12, 2019

+ This was my first set of true wireless headphones and have to say I was really impressed.
+ Sound quality has been top.
+ With the stability gels they stay well, super stable, in my ears.
+ Batteries last forever! I haven't had a moment where the buds ran out of power... granted I haven't worn them non-stop of more than 4 hours so they recharge fast when I put them back in the case while not listening to music.
+ Being able to control the volume, tracking, pause/play on the buds without having to use my phone has been awesome.

+- Mistakenly disconnected the left bud from the right once which was annoying but was able to reconnect pretty quickly after checking out the product setup videos on their website so wasn't an issue and now know how to fix it if it happens again.
+- Calls are are ok but not great. Sound quality on calls is good when not too much background noise but in a busy cafe not a good option.

++++ Overall great true wireless buds from a cool brand at an awesome price!

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money

Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on September 17, 2019

Don’t waste your money on these, had just over a month and had numerous issues with earbuds unpairing, the right one has now finally given up working.
Useless at noise cancellation, an uncomfortable for meant continuous effort to try and keep them in the ear.
The Blume is stupidly low, even on full volume on my phone. The noise cancelling only worked of the bids sat properly in the ear, but as stated above when running or working out in the gym they work loose. When trying to put them back in place, the volume sensor would think your trying to turn volume down.
All in all don’t waste your money as they are utterly useless

Why are my Skullcandy Indy not turning on?

1- Check to see if any debris is blocking the charging pins at the bottom of the case, or on the bud. 2- Check to see if the removable Stability Ear Gel or in-ear gels have been twisted or falling off, this could be keeping the buds from sitting correctly in the case.

Why are my Skullcandy earbuds not turning on?

Do not worry, as this is an easy fix! Once both buds have been powered OFF, touch and hold the button on each bud for 10 seconds to completely reset them (this will power cycle them on and off again).
