What about security?

The State of Louisiana understands your concerns about Internet security. Because we share your concerns, we've worked closely with vendors to develop a highly secure online Internet commerce experience. The result is a web site that offers the visitor a high level of service and trustworthiness as expected from other premier e-commerce sites.

In conjunction with features built into popular browser software, this web site provides advanced security for your online purchases. The security features are automatic; you don't need to do anything special to invoke them.

All sensitive information will be entered on secure pages. When you come to a secure page, your browser looks for a digital certificate to confirm that it is communicating with the State of Louisiana. Once a positive ID is made, your order continues. Your computer and our servers begin communicating in secure mode, sending data back and forth in an encrypted format. At this point you may see a window some browsers display when you are about to receive a secure document. It's fine to click "OK" (or "Continue") to proceed – it simply means that you will begin receiving pages that have been encrypted.

Only after your browser has entered secure mode will you be asked to enter your credit card information. The encryption features of browser software are exceptionally powerful and ensure the security of this data as it is transmitted to our servers. The State of Louisiana makes use of the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol and up to 128-bit strong encryption to provide the highest level of security available.

We hope you enjoy your visit to our web site. Please tell others about www.expresslane.org.

Vehicle Services

By working closely with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and the local Dealers, we hope to offer our customers the most convenient and efficient service possible.

Since the introduction of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicle’s computerized Registration and Title System (RTS) in 1995, the transaction time for registrations and titles in our offices has been reduced greatly. Also, titles are now delivered to customers approximately three weeks from the transaction date instead of six to eight weeks, as it was prior to RTS implementation.

The Tax Office offers a number of ways to conduct your automobile transactions. The purchase of registration stickers and the transfer of titles can be done through the mail. We now offer Online Vehicle Registration; to access this feature, click here.

*Please note that you will need to have your license plate number and the last four digits of your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) in order to renew your registration online. For more information on these services, please call the Tax Office at 512.393.5545.

Registered vehicle owners can authorize a representative to complete vehicle registration-related business on their behalf. Please download and complete an Authorization Letter and present with a copy of the registered owner’s valid Driver’s License.
