From a technical stand point the book is fairly solid with only a few minor points I dislike. Mostly this related to how confusing some areas are due to lack of context to tell if these are flashbacks, or why the protagonist would be willing to suddenly do certian things.

From an actual content perspective it works really well. A lot of the "Hero Resets Time and Takes Revenge" Genre that has popped up as of late tends to go the Redo of Healer route by basically turning it into gorn and hentai. The Hero Laughs does not do this, focusing more on how much the protagonist reviles the people who tricked him and even features a scene where he is asked if he is going to violate one of the women and he is genuinely sickened by the idea.

He also doesn't hold his punches, genuinely torturing the objects of his revenge and savoring their pain for what they did.

In general, I would say if you want something darker then Shield Hero but not as sex based as Redo of Healer this is the series I'd recommend to you.

I read the manga version and I love it. Now I'm reading the novel, and as expected, th details from different characters perspective give more passion. Love the story of a new beginning with previous memories and experience. Love Minalis character.

My first review on this was pretty harsh (but truthful). I stand by some statements, however I changed my rating from a 3 to a 4.

This is basically torture porn to an extreme, depraved level. IF that's what you like, look no further. Near the end of the book , there is some story - sanity to the madness however.

That part is quite enjoyable.

This one reminds me a bit of Shield Hero, except it's much darker. It definitely speaks to dark parts of me I might otherwise prefer to keep hidden behind a thin veil of civility. Well written and well paced aside from the very annoying and over done attempts to script wordless grunts, cries and screams. Just...why? Also a bit confusing on some of the plot elements, but I expect that will be cleared up as the series progresses.

I liked the premise of this book. However the execution was meh. The start is great but some things are over described while other things are left very bland. Like the system is needlessly complex. We are in the first book and there are already hidden stats?

Some of the things are just bleh. Like the beastkin girl is so far from believable in how she acts it is a bit cringe. It makes it hard to empathize with characters who don't seem human.

I have had come across a few stories about vengeance and wrath. Some have pulled it off well, some did not.... This is a good one! I love that our main protagonist isn’t hesitant or wastes his time debating if his vengeance is worth it in the long run. He just realizes that he is given a second chance, and decides to go for it! Although noting sexual happens in this story, there is a lot dismemberment and torture in this Isekai light novel. So, I cannot recommend this for children. I give my full support to the author and I eagerly await what happens next with our protagonist(s) on their road to vengeance! By the way, the princess in this story is an absolute cold-hearted hag! I can’t wait for her upcoming!

Final Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lotta novels in the release process that are simultaneously slowly releasing in anime form on funimation streaming, gotta say.. late 2021 and 2022 thus far has been an exceptional short series release collection.

It's petty dang entertaining and refreshing to read a revenge story every once in a while.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mostly Engaging Read

It's a good book and the first half especially is very engaging. After that though, it gets very entangled in exposition. I read on the mobile version so I can't predict full page size, but they spent 8 pages describing a door to a boss room, then did a whole chapter of flashback, then came back to present and skipped the boss fight. Not to mention how he just happens to have not a single experienced knight there at the start to stop him and he ends up feeling like an evil Mary Sue (one that won't stop talking about himself, judging by the amount of information dumping in the book).
The story itself is an interesting premise, but I don't think I could pick up volume two.
