WASHINGTON - A list featuring the top earners in the world has been released by Forbes. 

Forbes comprised a list of more than 2,000 billionaires worldwide and found over 1,000 billionaires who added to their massive fortunes this year compared to 2021. There are also over 200 first-time billionaires on the extensive list, published Wednesday. 

Several notable women made this year’s list as newcomers, including Melinda French Gates of Microsoft with a net worth of $6.2 billion, Trudy Cathy White of Chick-fil-A with $4.6 billion, Grammy-winning singer Rhianna with $1.7 billion from her music and cosmetics and Jenny Just of Fintech (finance and investments) with $1.5 billion.

According to Forbes, the United States still has the distinction of having the most billionaires worldwide at 735 and a collective net worth of $4.7 trillion.

The financial global media company used stock prices and exchange rates from March 11 to determine the net worth of the wealthiest individuals.

Forbes has several categories for this year’s list which includes the richest individuals, richest women and the newest billionaires.

The richest 100 people in the world collectively hold wealth worth $$4,387 billion, Forbes real-time billionaires list has revealed. Upon a quick analysis of the list, here are some quite interesting facts that Business Insider has gathered.

US continues to be the biggest billionaire maker

Nearly 40% — or four in ten — individuals in the top 100 richest list are from the United States of America (USA). China created 13% of billionaires.

In the top 10 list alone, seven people are from the USA, two are from India and one is from France.


Gautam Adani is among the top five richest people in the world

Earlier in April, Gautam Adani of the Adani Group became the sixth richest person in the world surpassing the likes of Oracle’s Larry Ellison and Google’s Sergey Brin and Larry Page. By April 22, he jumped another rank to become the fifth richest person in the world.

Adani’s net worth surpasses that of Reliance Industries' Mukesh Ambani at the moment. He is currently the richest person in Asia and in India.

India is home to seven of the 100 richest people in the world

From only four in 2020, India is now home to seven of the 100 richest people in the world. The list includes Shiv Nadar of HCL Technologies at 53rd rank, Cyrus Poonawalla of Cyrus Poonawalla Group at 60th rank, Radhakishan Damani of DMart at 83rd rank, Savitri Jindal of O.P.Jindal Group at 86th rank and Lakshmi Mittal of ArcelorMittal at 90th rank.

Adani sits on the fifth rank and Mukesh Ambani is at the eighth rank.

There are 11 women in top 100 richest list

There are 11 women in the top 100 richest list, according to Forbes real-time Billionaires' list. The richest among them is French businesswoman Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, the granddaughter of the founder of L'Oreal, who sits on the 14th rank with a net worth of $76.4 billion.

She is followed by Alice Walton, the only daughter of Walmart founder Sam Walton, at 16th rank with a networth of R70.7 billion. Julia Koch, who inherited her fortune from her husband David Koch, and Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife MacKenzie Scott are also part of the top 30 richest in the world.

The list also includes Jacqueline Mars, Gina Rinehart, Susanne Klatten, Iris Fontbona, Abigail Johnson and Yang Huiyan.


FTX’s CEO is the youngest billionaire in the top 100

Sam Bankman-Fried, who is also known by his initials SBF, is the youngest billionaire in the top 100 richest list. He is the founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of US-based cryptocurrency exchange FTX. The 30-year-old currently sits on the 61st rank with a networth of $24 billion.

The oldest billionaire in top 100 hails from China

At 94, Lee Shau Kee is the oldest billionaire in the top 100 billionaires list, according to Forbes’ real time billionaire list. He is a Hong Kong-based business magnate, investor and philanthropist. He has co founded property developer Sun Hung Kai with Kwok Tak-Seng.He is currently the 41st richest person in the world with a networth of $33.1 billion.

Overall, three people in the list are aged over 90.
