Trader joes dark chocolate covered peppermint jojos

Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Covered Peppermint Joe Joe's.  We also have some guest reviewers, three of kiddo's cousins, ages 7, 5, and 3.

Joe Joe's are Trader Joe's version of Oreos.  These are the peppermint variety, covered in chocolate, and sprinkled with crushed candy canes.  How much are they?  Well, I'm at my sister's house and left my receipt at home.  So much for being organized.  $3-4ish...each box contains about 10 cookies.

A mom's (my) take:  New rule...all Oreo-type cookies should be enrobed in chocolate.  The chocolate coating is spot on and seems to seal in the freshness of the cookie.  The peppermint just adds a little holiday sparkle.  These would be a nice little gift, a sweet addition to a holiday cookie platter, or perfect on Santa's cookie plate.
Overall rating: 5 of 5 stars

A teenager's (kiddo's) take: I could definitely eat an entire box in no time. Maybe 2. Or 5. The Joe-Joe's themselves are excellent, but when smothered in rich chocolate with peppermint crumbles on top... you really can't beat it.
Overall rating: 6 out of 5 stars :)

The chocolate covered cookie maintains a crisp snap when you bite in, the oreo-esque filling isn’t too sweet and is creamy-pepperminty contrast to the cookie. The crushed peppermint candy topping leaves a nice cooling finish. All around a great cookie. Probably could do with even more peppermint bits on top, but solid none the less.

To me these are good, but not my favorite choice out of cookies/seasonal dessert options at Trader Joe’s. Enjoyable but I prefer the other covered joe joes that are in the “astounding multi-flavor joe-joes” set, like the chocolate peanut butter covered ones and the vanilla ginger. The crunchy peppermint bits on top of these ones aren’t that evenly distributed, at least for the box I got, so some bites had too much mentholy-crunch while others had no mint.

The pros:  Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Covered Peppermint Joe Joe's are super chocolatey, rich with a nice balance of candy cane flavor and texture. The peppermint is a compliment to the chocolate and doesn't overwhelm it. Good quality chocolate was used on the outside.

The cons:  Only 10 in a package. Each cookie is over 100 calories each.

The verdict:  For $3.99 you are only getting 10 cookies in this package. What the Candy Cane Joe Joe's lack in chocolatey flavor this more than makes up for it in a much smaller package.

Here is a quick visual rundown before I give my final thoughts on trying this product.

Would I buy this again?  If you know Trader Joe's, there are certain items that are here one day and gone the next. If you like the Candy Cane Joe Joes, which are very similar to double stuff Oreos with a candy cane element to the filling and wished they were more chocolatey then this is the box to pick up.

If you know you are going to make a New Years Resolution involving weight loss, then you might want to limit yourself to just one box of these. They were absolutely delightful even though they were pricier than the regular cookie. If you want them, don't wait. Some of the holiday seasonal items are already sold out at my local Trader Joe's.

If you find you still want them after they have run out, there is a listing for them on Amazon.
