This has been extremely frustrating.

I’ve tried so many different ways to transfer my photos over with no luck! I’ve tried to manually transfer them over through the iPhones DCIM file but halfway through the transfer it would say something like “The current device is not responding”. Ive tried the Microsoft Photos app but has never worked, even with frequent updates. Always loses connection mid transfer. Tried multiple USB cables too with no avail. Ive tried using VLC player app but photos will not copy into the VLC folder on my iPhone.

Most recently, I bought into the iCloud storage plan so I could save them to my desktop from the PC app, but the iCloud PC app won’t install because it says “you don’t have any compatible devices”.

Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Store, troubleshooting, and resetting the Store app. Both iPhone and PC have their most recent updates. I’ve restarted PC and iPhone several bajillion times.

I’ve been trying to transfer my photos to my pc from iPhone for several days now. I really wish Apple/Microsoft wouldn’t make it this hard. I hope one of you fine individuals has the answer.

Windows literally just asks you to import the photos as if it was a camera. Unless you’ve told it to stop asking, in which case you’re blaming Apple for your own mistake

level 2

No, it ALWAYS crashes after a few pictures.

level 1

windows is easier than a Mac if you don't have iCloud library enabled

if you do, just use the iCloud tool for windows and it goes to the folder, then you can just move them to the HD

how is that hard?

level 2

Image Capture on Mac isn’t practically any more difficult than the Windows import method.

level 1

How is it difficult? I use the Windows photo transfer utility to export all the images/videos from my phone to my computer. It does a good job organizing everything by date though I’ll usually give it a once over.

level 2

Maybe it is just my pc then? Here is what I go through every time I want to import.

  1. I plug in my phone to my computer

  2. the import window comes up and then says no devices found (Yes the computer is trusted and my phone is unlocked)

  3. I then have to open iTunes to have my computer find the device to import.

  4. I click to import on the top right and it starts to, and then after the second file it says "The files might have not imported correctly." Then it stops recognizing it.

This happens Every.Time. I try to import things.

I plug into my windows 7 laptop using laptop charger and copy paste the hard drive photos folder onto desktop easy easy i dont like icloud or mac over priced confusion i like easy !

level 2

wish it was as easy for me...I just get a bunch of errors. I guess it must be my PC then

level 1

It’s not that hard. If you trust the PC when prompted, the iPhone will appear within your files application on your PC as if it is a camera.

I just use Dropbox.

Never had an issue.

level 2

does video quality drop at all when putting something in dropbox then downloading it to your computer?

level 2

Does Dropbox have a storage limit? Drive has a storage limit and if you exceed it you get compressed pics so now my picture quality sucks.

Use the iCloud mirroring stuff. Makes things much easier. Then any picture you take will be on the pc automatically.

Every time my mom tried to upload photos from her iPhone to her Windows desktop yesterday, an error message in Windows’ Photos app popped up saying “something went wrong.” I spent hours with her trying to fix it, because she is, by her own admission, technologically inept. Plus, there were so many potential solutions, even I was getting overwhelmed.

The last time she uploaded her photos, the error message popped up because her some of her photos were corrupted. But all her photos seemed fine now. After trying to troubleshoot on Windows for a while, I decided to plug her phone into my new MacBook to see if the issue was her photos or Mac/Windows incompatibility. And wouldn’t you know, I could import her photos to my Mac painlessly in just a few minutes. (I tried transferring the photos to an SD card to see if she could get them off of that, but it didn’t work.)

I know Apple products work best with other Apple products, but this is just nuts. It shouldn’t be this hard to upload some damn pictures. We finally got most of her photos to upload after going to Windows Photos > Import Photos > From USB-Connected Device instead of importing them automatically when the phone is connected. However, there is still roughly 10% of her photos that won’t transfer.

I’m not really looking for solutions or suggestions; I just need a place to vent. My mom’s desktop is very old and slow, so much so that it’s excruciating for me to use. But she doesn’t want to buy a new one, and I think switching to MacOS from Windows would be frustrating and confusing for her. The only upside would be that Apple Support is available 24/7, so I wouldn’t have to help her troubleshoot.
