I found this: "On your Android device, open WhatsApp and go to 'Settings'. Click on 'Chats' and then select 'Chat history'. Click on 'Export Chat' and select the contact whose chat you want to transfer. Now, you can select whether you want to include the media in the backup or not."

Obviously if you're looking to transfer more than 5 chats, it might not work/is a hassle.

Edit. I did a little digging and looks like this method isn't supported due to files being easily modified. However exporting the chats and saving them allows you to have some kind of backup.

It is supposed to be like this, I could be wrong as I have never done it before:

• Backup your WhatsApp chats

• Go to your WhatsApp ‘Settings’

• Select ‘Chat’ and then ‘Chat history’

• Choose the ‘Export Chat’ option and select the chat you want to export

• Choose whether to export the chat with or without all media included

• Enter your own email address as the recipient when prompted

• Download this email on your iPhone to restore all chats

you can just reset it, at least this is what i will do with my iphone i achieved yesterday. Its painfull, but its still possible to transfer the chats after already using the fresh whatsapp on the iphone... the current icloud save gets overwritten with the imported save from the android, when you transfer it

Hi, I didn’t tested but I know technician and he use (dr phone) to transfer data from android to iOS. But I highly recommend you to never try this with your sensitive data. Because there are people on social media you already searched telling it’s safe but remember all these tools install custom WhatsApp application to achieve the migration goal and no one knows what code is in that application or any back door. I am also facing such limitation since iPhone 13 released and perhaps many users waiting for this simple feature from more than a year. I am still using my Samsung S8 for WhatsApp and waiting for official migration tool. Although I am planning to stop using WhatsApp because a company not loyal to its users don’t deserve long commitments. I also tried to find the open source tool but not came across any for iOS so far. In current situation we have these safe options.

1. Change the phone number of WhatsApp on android and keep those messages and media. Than install WhatsApp on iOS with your primary number to fresh start. This way you have all your history on previous phone and new on iOS.

2. Wait for WhatsApp but remember migration from iOS to Android is only available during fresh phone setup as far as I know. It is most probably will be the case in Android to iOS migration. You have to reset everything to start the migration. Therefore the second safest way is to keep all the media files in some folder and save the chat history in email (in text file with Export Chat)

Even better would be if they just let us export the chat database to disk and import it wherever we wanted. There is no reliable way to backup WhatsApp messages on iOS right now.

I've used a paid app (Tenorshare Icarefone) to export from Android to iOS. It was subscription based, €25 per month, but you only need one payment of course. That is a full backup, but not an automated backup.

Just extract an iTunes backup to get access to your message database. You can even do it with open source tools, although it is clunky compared to the paid options

Android lets you copy the messages database easily, but to decrypt it is a tricky process without root
