Posted in Arizona Seasonal August 19, 2022 Show As if unprecedented flash flooding during this year’s monsoon season wasn’t enough to deal with, it looks like Arizona might get a little reprieve from extreme weather in the winter. According to the Farmers’ Almanac winter weather forecast for Arizona, the 2022-2023 winter season will be a milder affair this year – though drier than average, too. While the Southwest will likely escape the brunt of the onslaught of winter, we certainly aren’t in the clear either. Winter in Arizona is always a mixed bag. The southern half of the state rarely sees much snow, while the higher latitudes are often blanketed in a world of white.  On top of that, conditions change so rapidly from week to week that making predictions is as good as visiting a fortune teller. Since we never quite know what to expect, this upcoming season couldn't possibly catch us off-guard... right? Unfortunately, we may be in for an even less eventful winter than usual. On the bright side, the southwestern states will likely escape the brunt of the walloping that much of the U.S. is expected to receive. They're talking "unreasonably cold" temps in the Northeast!Even though our winter is forecast to be on the mild side, it won't be without a few cold spells. The most frigid weather will likely arrive in late January, and it could be rather brutal. Perhaps the snow will even reach the desert lowlands! In February, we'll have time to slow down and get our bearings. It might be chilly.There should be enough snow on the ground still if you're looking to hit the slopes, but any further lashing will (hopefully) hold off for a little while longer. March will behave like a seesaw, with one day calling for flip-flops and short sleeves, and the next, a thick winter coat.Expect snowy days, but not as many as we usually see (which isn't great for this whole drought situation we're in). By the end of March, just when spring usually starts to rear its head, the icy grip of winter may hold on for one last round of chilly temps.The silver lining is that when warmer weather finally does arrive, we'll be even more grateful for it. Well, until it's August. Yuck. So, Arizona, it's time we get ready for a delightfully mild, reasonable winter.While anything is possible, it appears a season full of mellow days and drier air is ahead, so get your sweaters and sandals ready, just in case! No matter how you like your winter, you’re sure to find it in Arizona. In northern Arizona, it’s snowy and chilly, though usually still quite dry. In central Arizona, it’s mild and fair, and sometimes rainy. Southern Arizona is a mixed bag in the winter sometimes – you can get a nice, mild winter or a chilly, snowy one! You’ll definitely want to check out some of our favorite winter towns in Arizona to get some ideas. Is Arizona a good place to visit in the winter? We say absolutely! It’s the best time of year to visit if you’re a fan of hiking, for example. Gone are the ridiculously hot days, replaced with pleasant, mild ones perfect for hitting the trails in places you generally shouldn’t hike in the summer (Phoenix comes to mind). Some of our favorite winter destinations in Arizona include the adorable little town of Flagstaff, the amazing Mount Lemmon in southern Arizona (the drive up alone is incredible), and mountain towns like Payson and Prescott.
