Can I use a straw 5 days after tooth extraction?

SMOKING: DO NOT smoke at least 72 hours (3 days) prior to or for 1 week after tooth surgery, since it is very detrimental to the healing process and will greatly increase your risk of DRY socket. DO NOT suck through a straw for the first 2 weeks after tooth surgery, as this will increase your risk of DRY socket.

When can you start drinking from a straw after tooth extraction?

DO NOT spit, rinse, suck through a straw, smoke, drink carbonated/alcoholic beverages, and hot foods/liquids for at least 24 hours. Passively empty your mouth when needed over a sink. You will want to avoid anything that creates negative pressure (sucking) in your mouth.

Can I use a straw 10 days after tooth extraction?

Avoid using straws for at least one week after your wisdom teeth extraction to avoid causing dry socket. The sucking motion required to use a straw can dislodge the much- needed blood clot covering your surgery site.

Can I use a straw 2 weeks after tooth extraction?

Sucking on a straw creates a lot of suction that could pull the blood clot away from the socket and dislodge it, causing dry socket. We recommend avoiding a straw for at least 48 hours or longer after your surgery.
