Last season Liverpool ended Man City's 4-year run as holders of the Carabao Cup. Liverpool won after a dramatic 11–10 penalty shoot-out against Chelsea, following a 0-0 draw in the final. In doing so, Liverpool are now the most successful club in the history of the Carabao Cup, having won the competition 9 times. In 2022/23 they'll no doubt once again be a team to watch in the Carabao Cup.

Because of the mix of EPL and EFL teams in a knockout format, there are often some unexpected results. Last season for example, League One side Sunderland made it all the way to the quarter-finals. They were the only non-Premier League side to get that far.
