The Mayberry Days festival is currently taking over downtown Mount Airy. It’s one of the biggest events that the Surry County Arts Council puts on every year.

“It is an enduring show, and people just love to come and celebrate it,” said Abigail Linville, director of collections/exhibitions of the Surry Arts Council.

It’s a celebration of all things Mayberry in the childhood home of Andy Griffith.

“We have fans from all over the country, some from different countries, but it’s just a wonderful time to celebrate all things wholesome, and that’s what folks, a commonality among people, is the wholesomeness of the show,” Linville said.

That wholesome appeal strengthens tourism for the state and Mount Airy. Tourism revenue is back to pre-COVID-19 levels, and Mayberry Days is the reason for more than 95% of visits.

“This is a driver because you’re bringing in people from all over the country to come and celebrate in this small little city, which has impact on your hotels, your restaurants and your downtown area. Everyone feels the impact from the good substantial impact from it,” Linville said.

The Mayberry Days festival runs through Sunday.

Mayberry Days is a festival celebrating small town America as depicted on the Andy Griffith Show. It’s an annual celebration held annually the last weekend of September. This year’s festival will be held in Mt. Airy, NC from September 19-25, 2022.

There’s lots to take in for fans of the show, with the activity centering in downtown Mt. Airy. There are multiple concerts throughout the festival. Tours of Mayberry (i.e. Mt. Airy) are available in the Barney-mobile. Snappy Lunch serves up pork chop sandwiches. There’s even a golf tournament.

Mayberry Days® is a festival for the whole family with activities and events for the fans who long for the days when life was simple and the sheriff didn't carry a gun. Enjoy a bottle of pop while playing checkers, relax to music from many local bands playing the same songs that Andy grew up with and performed on The Andy Griffith Show.

From the first concert to "The Emmett" golf tournament on Thursday to eating a porkchop sandwich to singing along on the last song at the Blackmon Amphitheatre on Sunday evening, there is something for everyone in the family. The Surry Arts Council and City of Mount Airy welcome fans of all ages and from all around the world to Mayberry Days. Make plans now to attend this family-friendly festival and enjoy days filled with the Mayberry spirit.

Mayberry Days events take place at or around the Andy Griffith Playhouse, in the Historic Earle Theatre, in the Andy Griffith Museum Theatre (below the museum) or at the Blackmon Amphitheatre unless otherwise noted in the schedule. The Surry Arts Council venues are within walking distance of each other, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothes (the festival goes on, rain or shine). There is limited free parking in the numerous municipal lots downtown for the earlybirds.

Only service animals are permitted at Surry Arts Council venues, including the Blackmon Amphitheatre. Pets are not permitted. Please read for more information.

Be sure to come visit Mount Airy during other times of the year as well. The Andy Griffith Museum is open 7 days a week and the Surry Arts Council has events going on throughout the year, so there are plenty of reasons to return.
