The need of a stabilizer should be mentioned clearly if selling in India. I made the payment then I received the message about that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comparison of the Bissell Symphony Vacuum and Steam Mop to the Shark Pocket Steam Mop (or Why I Love My Symphony)

Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on 25 August 2016

I have had, and really liked, the Shark Pocket Steam mop for several months. But there were a few things about it that I didn't really love, and then...one day I was vacuuming my hard floor, preparing to steam mop it, when it hit me: why wasn't there a device that both vacuumed and mopped at the same time? I did some research - and guess what, there is! It's called the Bissell Symphony! :-)

So, here are a few things to note about the Symphony, and also things that I like about it compared to the Shark.

First, when your Symphony arrives, the box will feel very heavy (much heavier than the Shark). I expected it to be somewhat heavier, because it has a vacuum built into it, but I didn't expect it to be *that* much heavier! Fear not, because it turns out that a lot of that weight is the packaging (both the external box from Amazon, which is large, and the actual Bissell packaging). Once you are dealing *only* with your Symphony, it is much lighter - still heavier than the Shark, of course, but not horribly so.

Second, I love that with the Symphony the steam isn't on automatically all the time, like it is with the Shark. With the Symphony there is a little trigger button in the handle that you hold down if you want steam. Some people may not like that (having to hold down the trigger) but it is inside the handle so it's very easy and natural to hold it down, but if you don't want steam you can just take your finger off the trigger. (So yes, you can use it as just a vacuum, or, for that matter, as just a steamer - the vacuum on/off button is independent of the steam, and vice versa.)

Third, the buttons to adjust between high and low steam are right there on the handle. On the Shark, the buttons are down at the bottom, so that you have to bend down and around to the front of the unit to switch between steam levels. (To be fair, with the Shark there are also three steam levels (dust, mop, and scrub) - with the Symphony there are only two (high and low), but I have never found myself wishing for a third level with the Symphony.)

Fourth, the Symphony will actually stand up and stay here you put it. In other words, if you need to stop for a bit, or when you store the Symphony, it is free-standing. With the Shark, you need to secure it, or hang it up, or be very careful resting it against a counter or wall, because it does not lock into an upright position - the head always swivels.

Fifth, I *love* how easy Bissell has made it to add water to the Symphony! And you can do it from a standing (the Symphony) position! You just flip open the little water 'door' on the back of the unit, and pour your water in. With the Shark, you have to lay the thing on its side on a counter or table, unscrew the cap, and then use a funnel or else pour the water in veeerrrry slooooowly because the opening is so small (otherwise you'll get water everywhere).

Sixth, that Bissell had the foresight to team up with Swiffer to make it so that you could use a disposable Swiffer pad with the Symphony is just pure genius! With the Shark you can only use the reusable mop head covers. Now maybe that's all you *want* to use, but having the option to use either is brilliant! (In case it isn't clear how you use the disposable Swiffer pad, there is actually a second, replacement head that snaps on to the bottom of the Symphony - it is just like the other head *except* that it has a hinged rim that you open - put the Swiffer pad on - and then close the rim down over the Swiffer pad to hold it in place. And switching between heads is as easy as it gets - you step on a tab to remove (release) the one head, then set the Symphony down on top of the other head, and it just snaps into place!

So, the big question is, how does it clean?

How does it clean??? See that picture?? YUCK! :-)

It's absolutely *brilliant* being able to mop (steam mop) and vacuum all at once. And if you find a place on your floor where you have a bit of extra solid stuff on the floor that you need to vacuum up (hey, it happens, especially with pets and kids), just take your finger off the steam trigger, vacuum it up, and then start steaming away again!

And yes, the handle can be adjusted to go under tables, under beds, etc..

Now, we have a lot of shedding going on here, so yes, it *has* happened that at the end of mopping there may be a tiny fine line of wet pet hair that didn't get picked up (you know, like happens *whenever* you mop in a house with lots of animals, no matter how much you have swept and vacuumed first)...seriously, that has happened only one time, in one spot, and I just picked it up with a paper towel. Given that the 'lingering wet pet hair after mopping' *always* happens, with any type of mop (I think that after I sweep or vacuum, the dog and cat go behind my back and shed on the freshly swept floor *just* so I can have pet hair on the mop! .. "Wow, all of our hair has disappeared, she'll be so sad, let's go put some back on the floor right now!"), I'm not going to fault the Symphony for that - especially given what a fine job it does, and, compared to pretty much anything else!

This is the greatest thing EVER!!! seriously, its almost 11p and I cant go to bed until i tell you to BUY THIS ONE! I spent 7 months reading reviews and finally decided on this. I read the reviews that said it left a film when they wiped it after mopping. Im sure mine probably would right now also. BUT i haven't mopped my floor in 2 weeks (!!!!) since my old steam mop broke... 😞

You know how when you usually steam the floor and it leaves that little line of dirt every once in a while? You just push a button and its GONE! Might not sound like much, but it is amazing!!!! It was so frustrating so go back and sweep the floor that i just swept and steam mopped....
Not anymore! I was 77% sure this WOULDN'T make a dent in this floor. 3 boys. House under construction in muddy weather. A dog.... And it looks great after one pass that didnt even use the entire tank. Spots I was sure i was going to have to hand scrub were gone within 3 passes!!!!

My Hubby is just laughing at me because I'm walking around and keep saying "This thing is so awesome!" (I really am)

I don't usually leave reviews, but i always read them. And i just can't let one person, who sits up at night reading mop/vacuum reviews for months, not know that they can stop looking.
This is your vacuum/steam mop combo! Final answer.

I had really high hopes for this machine as my home is entirely dark hardwood floors and I have two cats. This machine was horrible! It does not do what it is supposed to do. If you try to steam and vacuum at the same time, it just smears hair and dirt around. I tried using the vacuum first and then going back over all of the floors with the steam mop. The vacuum does not have near enough suction and so you have to line up the center of the machine with the crumb and hold it there for a few seconds before it will pick up a crumb. There are many small particles, like litter, that it won't pick up at all, so it really shouldn't be marketed for pets. Any kind of dust-type dirt just gets pushed around in a line when vacuuming. While it does pick up hair, the vent for the suction is located low on the machine, so much of it gets blown around and it therefore takes twice as long to vacuum the hair than it should. The cord on the machine is also way too low so it is constantly under foot and runs over its own cord.

Using the mop function by itself is not much better. The wheels leave lines all over the floor and the floors still appear to have a streaky residue afterwards (like it really just moved dirty water around) even when using all of the Bissell recommended water products. About 5 months in, the trigger handle on the steam mop broke and I had to take it to a local shop for repairs. Then three months after that, the machine started leaking water even when I was only using the vacuum feature.

When I called this time, I had the WORST customer service experience ever! The woman started asking me to take the machine apart and troubleshoot it and never asked me what the problem was. When I said, "Don't you need to know what problem I am having?" She blew me off and told me the steps are the same no matter what. (This doesn't make any sense). She didn't listen when I did explain the issue and tried to send me to a service center again. I asked if instead of continuing to have it fixed, I could get a different machine as it is still under warranty and the performance was awful even when it wasn't broken. She said they didn't do that and got annoyed when I asked to speak to a supervisor. Instead of putting one on the phone, she came back a few minutes later and said she asked the supervisor and they could send me a new machine, but only of the same one. When I pointed out that this really didn't solve my problem because the machine had no suction even when it was new, she told me they have never had an issue with the suction on this machine, which it a total lie! I found 26 other reviews on Amazon alone that complained about the suction. This really didn't solve my problem so I said, "If you are able to send me a new $160 machine, why can't you just apply that amount to a better model and I will happily pay the difference?" Again, I was told that this was impossible and again I asked to speak to a supervisor and this time was told one wasn't available to talk to me but someone from the corporate office would call in 1-2 business days. A week later, no one had called so I called again. I was given the same story about no supervisors being available. At this point I gave up and contacted Amazon and had my money back and a prepaid shipping label within five minutes. I ordered a Shark instead and it is WAY better in both function and design. I would have given Bissell another try with a better model, but I was so disgusted with their customer service that it wasn't even worth buying another one from their company. Very disappointed.

Can you use the Bissell Symphony pet on hardwood floors?

A: Yes, you can use it on hardwood floors, one way to know if your floors are sealed put a small drop of water and if the wood soaks it up then your floors are not sealed. You may not use hardwood floor cleaner, please stick to the water you might damage the steamer and void the warranty.

Does the Bissell symphony work on carpet?

A: Yes it does. If you use the wet mop pads that you purchase separately they will bunch up. The fabric ones work fine on carpet and using steam.
