Onan oil filter part number?

Today I attempted to change the oil and oil filter on our new RV. Based on the Onan generator book that came with the rig, the oil filter part number is 122-0833. When I went to remove the original oil filter I noticed it is about 2/3rds the diameter of the new 122-0833 filter. Because the original filter is so much smaller, I didn't have an oil filter wrench that would remove it, so I don't know what part number is on that filter. Anyone know what the part number is on this OEM oil filter?

My generator model is 8HDKAK-1046N Spec. N

Oil Filter et al Part Numbers

The Cummins-Onan RV Generator Handbook (https://power.cummins.com/sites/defa.../F-1123-EN.pdf) on page 46 shows the following OEM part numbers for your generator:

Oil Filter: 122-0833
Air Filter: 140-2897
Fuel Filter: 147-0860

The oil filter shown for your 8000 watt generator is the same one shown (and I use) for my 7500 watt generator. It's entirely possible that whoever serviced your generator last time used the wrong oil filter!!

The Handbook states the oil and oil filter need to be changed after every 150 hours of use. The air and fuel filters need to be changed after every 500 hours of use. If it's been a while since your air & fuel filters have been changed, you may want to strongly consider doing so while you're lying on your back draining oil and changing the oil filter. Because I primarily use my generator during LSU football season where the generator runs continuously for 48 hours while parked in a dusty, gravel lot on the LSU campus, I ave to change my air filter more frequently.

Oil and filters changes are "cheap routine maintenance" to help the generator perform well and avoid a costly repair some point in the future.

Thanks for the help folks! I only have 38 hours on the gen, so I left the OEM filter in and filled the crank with new oil. I'll go shopping for an adjustable oil filter wrench to remove the smaller OEM filter next time we "are trapped at home". Then I'll install the 122-0833 filter and another 3 qts. of oil.

Usually on the front of an Onan generator is a plate with all the filter numbers (air, oil, glow plug, etc.) on it for that particular generator. Usually near the circuit breaker.

Also, if it is the original "new" filter installed by the manufacturer, on my generator it was very hard to remove as a gorilla must have put it on. Make sure you have a filter wrench with some substance to it.

I use a Wix 57398 in place of the Onan 122-0836. I know this isn't the same number as in the thread but shows there are options to the Onan filter.

What kind of oil does an Onan diesel generator take?

How often do you change the oil in an Onan diesel generator?

It consists of a basic engine oil and filter change. Servicing of fuel and air filters comes at 500 hours or two-year intervals. However, a brand-new generator requires oil and filter changes after 50 hours to remove contaminants from the oil during the engine's break-in period.

How many quarts of oil does an Onan generator take?

Onan RV recommends changing the oil every 100 hours or once a year, whichever comes first. It only takes about 20 minutes and you will be good to go for the season. You will need a T30 torx bit, a 12mm socket, an oil pan, a funnel and 1.6 quarts of SAE30 or 15W-40 oil.
