Seal-Tite Window, Door And Molding Kit?

I'm resealing my windows and came across this Seal-Tite Kit by Dicor

Looks very nice and complete but pretty costy and I don't need 90 feet of the Foamcore tape

Looks to me like the tape is Foamcore Butyl tape but they don't specify what it is

Anybody have any knowledge regarding this tape?

I actually ordered the stuff from GT but cancelled until I can confirm what product I want to use

I don't like the putty... don't want any chance of oozing out...

I built camper shells when I was young and remember the putty mess!

I like the Foamcore but didn't know if the Seal-tite kit was
foamcore Butyl or some kind of

foamcore

I bit the bullet and ordered the Seal-TIte kit

Upon further inspection, I figure I will have to reseal at least 3 windows that were removed and reinstalled for fog repair last week at Quartzite

Needless to say.... if you want it done right, you've got to do it yourself!

When they R&R'd the windows they did not use new seals. They offered to
re-silicone the tops of the frames but didn't want to clean off the old silicone first...

You could just imagine how that would turn out.

Seal-Tite Review

I did my reseal using the Seal-Tite Kit.

Just as easy and clean as the demo on YouTube!

The seal is a round, somewhat sticky foam core "rope" shaped seal.

Not a typical butyl putty

Following the youtube instruction it was super clean and easy..

Just need a helper!

Highly recommended!

Ugh...I also saw this stuff and thought it was pricey. Sounds like it's the way to go though. I wish there was a less expensive alternative. Seems every company in the world wants their hands in your wallet when you own an RV!


Hasn't the good ole butyl tape been sealing RV's for decades?

The kits are made for owners who lack handyman skills/experience to determine what they need and how to use it. It costs more than buying the stuff ala carte, but it's convenient and helps avoid novice mistakes. Still less than paying someone else to do it, though.


For those with some practical knowledge, the task can be easily done with good old butyl tape, a putty knife, a screwdriver and a ladder.

Maybe you can get a good neighbor to help you reinstall the windows with the new tape.

I consider myself very experienced in installing these type of windows. I've actually installed or repaired

of these type windows, many single handed (in my younger years)

My desire was NOT to use good ole butyl tape. I don't like it, it can be messy and possibly ooze out over time

I liked the idea of the "foamcore/butyl" mix although I'd never seen it before and frankly wasn't sure it would be what I wanted

And it turned out to be exactly what I anticipated it would be.. a perfect mix

I bought the kit cause I couldn't find this "foamcore" tape anywhere individually. Apparently not available except for in this kit

It sounds like its over priced but when compared to buying the same footage and quantity of other tapes and sealers I found it to be about $20 bucks more.

Worth it to me cause I wanted to use foamcore!

Some folks buy a particular kit or combo for convenience or the needs of a certain product, not necessarily due to lack of skills or experience

Yes, but personally I don't like it. Frankly for the quantity of tape you get in the kit it's reasonably priced. Apparently this foamcore tape is not available individually

I think you make my point. You have the skills and experience to make a tech judgement, and you did. Nothing wrong with that and I meant nothing wrong with the sealer kit product either. If it was convenient for you to buy it in kit form instead of ala carte at a hardware store, that's ok too.


My point is that folks with the knowledge can successfully make choices of materials and methods that others should probably avoid. The use of a kit provides a convenient package of materials that has ostensibly been determined by an expert to be suitable for the intended task.

I don't share your dislike of butyl tape and have used it successfully in dozens of projects in metal & composite buildings, cars, and RVs over a 40+ year period, but that doesn't mean there aren't alternatives that are as good or better.
