Shea moisture daily hydration overnight face oil review

Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Heptyl Undecylenate, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Tocopherol, Acacia Senegal Gum Extract, Evening Primrose (Oenothera Biennis) Oil, Ethyl Palmitate, Isononyl Isononanoate, (Certified Organic Ingredient) (Fair Trade Ingredient)

I discovered Shea Moisture about 4 years ago while shopping at Target. What first caught my attention was the packaging. It stood out next to the other skincare products on the shelves. I grabbed a body wash and the first thing I did (which I always do) was check the ingredients label. I was pleasantly surprised to see a full list of natural ingredients. I loved that there were no parabens, that it was vegan, and that the company’s products are not tested on animals. I checked the price and I felt that it was affordable. Finally, I read their story and I was sold. I loved that the family carried on the matriarch’s legacy of making natural hair care and skincare products.

I went home that night and tried my body wash and lotion. I loved them! My skin felt amazing. I kept trying more Shea Moisture products as my local stores expanded their variety. Since I’ve tried their bar soaps, I haven’t gone back to using any other bar soap. I have eczema and evidently, Shea Moisture products help hydrate and moisturize my skin, to the point where I’ve had patches of dry skin go away within a week.

Needless to say, when Influenster sent me the Shea Moisture 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil VoxBox I was ecstatic! I couldn’t wait to try the products.

The first thing I tried was the Daily Hydration Overnight Face Oil. The night I received the package, before I went to bed, I washed my face and instead of applying my usual moisturizer, I applied the face oil. I was careful not to use too much as I did not want my face to feel greasy. Well I was surprised to realize that my face didn’t feel greasy at all. In fact, the face oil formula was light enough that I applied a bit more on my face to ensure that I had enough coverage.

While I have combination skin, I feel that the Shea Moisture Daily Hydration Overnight Face Oil could work for all skin types. I used the face oil for a few days and although I did not see a significant difference in the look of my skin compared to when I use my usual moisturizer, I do feel that it is a more natural moisturizer and I would continue to purchase this product.

The next product I tried was the 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil Head-To-Toe Nourishing Hydration, which I applied to my body like a lotion in the morning after I showered. I have used coconut oil to moisturize my body before and I like it, but I don’t love it. Because it is an oil, it tends to stain my clothes and sheets. So I reserve this for when I need to moisturize my body and I know I’m not leaving the house, which would otherwise require me to wear nicer clothes. Another thing I’d like to point out is that the retail price of this item is a bit steep when compared to the large jars of organic cold-pressed coconut oil you can buy almost anywhere. So although I like this product, it’s not my favorite.

Lastly, I tried the Leave-In Treatment and the Daily Hydration Finishing Oil Serum on the same day. I have puffy, curly, frizzy hair which has dry damaged ends and sometimes oily roots. I sometimes style my hair curly using oils, serums, or mousse and other times I straighten it with a blow-dryer and a hair iron. The Leave-In Treatment is liquid so it calls for a curly hair style-at least for me. So first I washed my hair and then I sprayed it with the Leave-In Treatment very generously since I have a lot of hair. The first thing I noticed was the scent. It smells sooooooo good! The fragrance seems to resemble gardenia. Then I brushed my hair (the treatment is a detangler as well) and tousled it a bit to style it. Although the Leave-In Treatment was giving my hair a beachy look, I still had frizz (which the treatment is supposed to tame) so I felt that I needed some of the Daily Hydration Finishing Oil Serum.

I sprayed a bit of the Daily Hydration Finishing Oil Serum into my palm and then worked it into the frizziest and driest parts of my hair. This definitely helped. I even applied both products to my boyfriend’s hair as he has curly hair too! He also loved the scent haha! After applying this combination to my hair over a few days, I noticed that my hair looked smooth and shiny. However, I feel that the Leave-In Treatment is not the most effective product. If your hair is not very frizzy, then it should work great! But if you have frizzy hair and you want to use this product, you may need to add something else to your hair to tame the frizz. It would also work great for people with straight or wavy hair that want to achieve a more shiny and relaxed beachy vibe. Also, if you have a lot of hair like me, this may not be the most cost effective product as you will need to use a lot more of the treatment and the bottle is pretty small. As for the Daily Hydration Finishing Oil Serum, it’s a great oil for wet and dry hair. I apply it to the driest parts of my hair before I blow-dry it and iron it.

So there you have it! My favorite product is the Daily Hydration Overnight Face Oil which I will continue to use on my face nightly. The other product I like is the Daily Hydration Finishing Oil Serum which I use in my hair no matter which way I style it. It helps calm the frizz, gives my hair some shine, and moisturizes the dry parts. The products I didn’t love but could definitely work for you are the Leave-In Treatment and the 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil Head-To-Toe Nourishing Hydration.

Overall, I am very grateful to have been able to test the products. I look forward to being able to provide you with some more honest reviews in the near future! 😉
