GARY P. NUNN Down here in Texas, not liking Gary P. Nunn is equivalent to being on the wrong side of the wall at the Alamo. The London Homesick Cowboy has been around the Texas scene doing his thing so long, I’m not even going to bother Googling “Gary P. Nunn discography” to count how many albums the man has released. Suffice it to say his longevity and busy tour schedule prove he knows what he’s doing, and his latest album demonstrates it once again in spades. On Taking Texas to the Country Nunn works all the classic country music barroom dance styles as he teaches the new breed lessons in style, taste, lyrical depth and musical integrity. There are cheatin’ songs, drinkin’ songs, Mexico songs, Texas songs and old-fashioned love songs, with not a clunker in the bunch. And Nunn seals the deal when he sings about “Down In Louisiana” where “the women are flirty and the rice is dirty.” For fans of true Texas music, this one is a must-have. — WILLIAM MICHAEL SMITH

Editorial Reviews2010 release. Gary P. Nunn has been Taking Texas to the Country and Texas Country to the world for some 40 years now, establishing himself as an icon of Lone Star music. A founding father of the progressive country movement out of Austin in the 1970s that changed the face of popular music, Nunn is also an independent music pioneer who continues to oversee his own record label and song publishing companies, manage his own career (with the help of his wife Ruth), and play most every weekend at top music venues throughout Texas and beyond. 13 tracks. Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 30, 2011 This is an awesome CD from one of the most iconic & popular Texas musicians of all time. He's been taking Texas to the country & to the world for many decades now. So it's high time he had a CD out by that name. "Taking Texas to the Country", the title track, is a fun tune made just for two-stepping around in a Texas dancehall. "Down to Lousiana" is another fun tune, but this time with a Cajun twist. My favorites also include the slow dance tunes "I'm Not That Kind of Guy" "The Girl Just Loves To Dance" "One State of Mind" and "Lonesome Lonestar Blues." A very nice romantic tune is "A Two Step Away" and he gives a nod to Ray Price. Gotta love that. I love the quirkiness of "It's Not Love" and "Deja Vu." One of my favorites for dancing is "The Likes of Me" which is just a fun love song!! "The Rest of My Life" sounds like an old country standard. Really only 2 songs on the CD are not all that good to me - "Mexican Blvd" and "Denver" though when he plays them live, I always enjoy them. I just don't think they are as good as the rest of the album which is a very very strong CD. Who sings Taking Texas to the country?Taking Texas To The Country - Album by Gary P. Nunn | Spotify.
