FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Can I use boneless pork chops?

I like the bone-in pork chops for this recipe. I find that it really gives this dish a lot of flavor but if you prefer boneless you can certainly do that. But I definitely do not recommend a thin cut pork chop. Just be careful when taking them out when they are finished cooking. The meat will be very tender so I like to scoop them out with a spatula.

What can I serve with pork chops?

My absolute favorite side dish with this is mashed potatoes. Rice or egg noodles are also good. I also like to serve it with some steamed vegetables. (like broccoli or carrots.)

Can I cook this high?

I don't recommend cooking on high. The meat will not come out as tender. Cooking it low and slow will ensure fall-apart tender pork chops.

Can I use a different cream soup?

You can pretty much us any cream soup your family enjoys. Cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, cream of onion, cream of mushroom and chicken will all work here.

Should I salt and pepper the pork chops?

You could definitely season with pepper but I don't recommend salt as there is enough salt in the other ingredients.

Can I use fat-free or low sodium options?

Where applicable, you could certainly substitute with those options.

Do I need to thicken the gravy?

It's totally optional but I really think the gravy works better when thickened.

How do I store leftovers?

Store leftovers in an airtight container and put into the refrigerator. Eat within two days. I don't recommend freezing leftovers.

Can I use a round crock pot instead of oval?

I find this recipe works better in an oval slow cooker instead of a round one. The chops cook more evenly.

Do pork chops get tough in the crock pot?

Since pork chops lack the fat of the cuts used for true pulled pork, chops cooked longer than two hours tend to taste a little chewy and dry despite the fact that they are fork-tender. To make up for it, spoon all that delicious cooking liquid over the chops to give them some extra moisture.

What is the best way to cook pork chops without them drying out?

High-heat frying sears them to a golden brown; and a moderately hot oven (400 degrees F) bakes the pork chops gently enough to keep them from drying out. This "sear-roasting" method is a great way to cook pork chops in the oven: Fry one side to golden brown, then flip, and place the chops directly in the oven.

How do you make pork chops not dry in a crock pot?

Just make sure you select THICK boneless chops to ensure they do not dry out. Be aware that thick-cut boneless chops still cook quickly—mine were done when I hit the 2-hour mark on LOW. If your slow cooker runs hot, check even earlier.
